Have I Failed???

My rny was on 12/17/08. Pre surgery highest weight was 355, and since surgery I'd gotten to 280 but am actually stuck around 290. I've been on a several month plateau, which is very frustrating... I've picked up a few bad habits....liquids during meals....and an occasional soda...this is only after I became super frustrated that my weight loss slowed and stopped.

Please give me any advice or tips you can. I just don't know if my rny can even help me anymore at this point. Any insight would be appreciated!

You haven't failed but you are failing yourself.  You can help yourself....stop drinking soda and no more liquids with meals.  Go back to the basics from your first few weeks post op and start over again.  You can do this so don't let yourself down....you are worth it.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009

Go back to basics. My nutritionist told me anytime I felt like I was off target to go back to the basics. Maybe you could incorporate i thing a week and in no time you would be back on track.  Also are you exercising? That will help you jump back on the train as well.

Kim you are still pretty early out - 8 months ?  - you can do this - first check with your surgeon and make sure you don't have a physical issue with your wls - then get your butt back in gear unless you are happy maintaining at 290 (I say that b/c I have been fairly happy maintianing 210ish for several years and just now am getting back to serously working on losing agian)

you know the basics right?

protien first at all meals
water - lots of it
vits - ALL your supliments you need
exersize - you MUST move
mesure everything from water to food to work outs

track in fitday or daily plate if that works for you - if not then grab a peice of paper and pen and WRITE down EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth and when - you don't have to show me, the board or even your doc what it says -this is for YOU to have total honesty with yourself on what and how you are doing

after your doc rules out a physical problem you just have to put the effort into USEING YOUR TOOL it won't fail you if you work it

there are several "diet" plans to kick start you back to basics if you need that much control - some peeps do some do better just doing what they know is best b/c you are going to eat like this for the rest of your life

grab a timer today -(or your cell phone alarm)  set it for 30 mins every time you eat and don't drink till it goes - that is a baby step you can sucseed at today! swing by walmart on the way home and get yoru fav flavors of tea or crytal light and DRINK them instead of soda - hit sonics happy hour between 2 and 4 and order a rt 44 LEMONaid with diet cherry - that is 44 oz of liquid that is totally legal :) and non carbinated and has 20 cals for just over a buck

decide when you are ready for the next baby step - whatever you need that to be and plan for it then do it!!

peace

Kim, you've got to work that tool girl.  Drinking with meals is only allowing you to push the food through and not have that full feeling.  I'm 4 1/2 years out and still don't drink with my food, I rarely even no wait 30 minutes to drink.  I CAN definitely tell when I've pushed the food through because I want more food.

Call your doctor and get a scope, find out if your pouch is working right.  You've lost 75 lbs in 7 months, that's nothing to sneeze about, it's great.  However, IF YOU DON'T get a handle on it NOW, you are going to continue to struggle and lose some of your honeymoon period to optimize the weight loss.

Don't look at failure as an option......look at your tool as an opportunity.

I will echo what the others have said. Assuming there's nothing mechanically wrong with the pouch, it will still work for you if you work with it, not against it!

The not drinking with meals is forever---as far out as you are from surgery you could wait as long as an hour or hour and a half after you complete your meal to drink. Then of course you have to drink plenty before the next meal so you won't start the meal thirsty. This technique is one of the most important for long-term-success. I'm almost six years out and still do this faithfully!!

As others have said, exercise is super-important as well.

Stick with us, you can do this!!!
