ARRRRRR MY mother in law
I wrote in a few weeks ago about my Mother in law being upset and jealous and mad at me cause I was having WLS and he INS will not pay for it......WELL .....now she is giving me a hard time telling me that I'm going to have all kinds of problems due to the lapband and that its not as safe as others, and that she is going to have WLS done but she is going to have the sleeve done.......what is the sleeve WLS? I was really worried about having WLS but after I talked to my DR and ya'll all if my fears have calmed done.......WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO DO THIS!!!
The sleeve is a newer procedure. They are having ALOT of success with it. But everyone has to chose the surgery they think will work the best for them. I thought I wanted a band until I talked with my surgeon and did some research. It wasn't the best choice for me and the health issues I had. But a good friend of mine had a band done by the same surgeon I used and she has lost 115 pounds and kept it off for 4 years now. Don't let your mother in law get to you. There are going to be those that aren't supportive of you. I lost my best friend of 30 years after I had surgery. She couldn't handle me losing weight and I just had to move on without her. We are here for you. Don't forget that. When you need something come here and we will do the best we can for you.
Everyone thinks their surgery is superior... and different surgeons have different opinions too.. It's all about the aftercare and type of eater you are...
Though... with good conscious... I'd say research the sleeve a little bit.. since you ARE self pay anyways...
They remove 85% of your stomach. The side that over produces hormones and ghrelin ... so that if you have PCOS or anything with elevated testosterone.. it REALLY cuts down on that... and supposedly the ghrelin is what triggers hunger... and thats gone because they got rid of that side..
Of course head hunger is stil there...
But it's all about how much help you believe you need.. and how much willpower you think youhave.. and the type of eater you are..
My belief is if you like sweets and grazing.. the RNY/DS is best..
If you're just a volume eater who needs restriction.. the band or sleeve is best.. my opinion is that the sleeve helps remove a lot of things that contribute to problems as an obese person..
My girlfriend had PCOS and bled all the time.. she got the band... and 8 months out.. is STILL bleeding... she's lost maybe 35% to goal...
I will be one month out tomorrow.. and the period I had after surgery.. ENDED ON ITS OWN.. after 3.5 days. My facial hair is less coarse.. body acne is gone.. all PCOS symptoms are much less... and I've lost like 18-20% of my excess weight...
But the first replier.. is a woman who rocked the lapband and has changed her life for the better as well..
So many decisions.. but it all comes down to what YOU are comfortable with...

I have to say I am a little concerned for you. But only because you are investing in your future healthy lifestyle. You are self pay, but you dont know about the sleeve? How about the D.S.? If I were you, and this is ONLY my opinion, I would do more research on what type of surgery would be best for you and one that has the best results.
Im an exception to the rule with my surgery as it was a gift. But let me tell you what? I have done AMAZING with it! I have the band and I have lost ONE HUNDRED & FORTY SIX POUNDS!!! I have lost a whole other adult that I was carrying. I only have 60 more pounds to reach MY goal and I WILL reach it.
As for your mother in law, sorry to hear she is having issues with herself and taking it out with negative comments towards you. Just know, its NOT you, it is her with the problem. Surround yourself with those that love and support you. Heck come on here everyday and you are bound to get a hug from someone. We are a cool bunch!
I wish you a SUCCESSFUL surgery! Take care.

U tell me that I sin,
U say Im bound for hell,
So once ur judgment condemns U,
I SHALL SEE U THERE.
I'd rather be an OPEN sinner
than a FALSE saint...
