If you can eat creamed soups, then stir some unflavored Unjury protein into your soup after it cools below 130 to get more protein in.

What about soft string cheese?  Can you tolerate that?

You didn't mention refried beans as a yes or no but beans are also a good source of protein and fiber.

I tried string cheese! It was good. I was able to tolerate it.
I am going to try the beans. I have done "OK" with veggies in the past. Even if I steam them sometimes I have a hard time with them. Just last week I got a piece stuck and it was horrible. I am going to go grocery shopping today, my husband is going to watch the kids, and I am going to take my time and look for things and read labels. It is really hard with my 2 boys to do that when they are with me.

I noticed sf jello pudding on your list of things you can tolerate.  You can stir some vanilla protein powder in it to boost it also.

I am racking my brain trying to come up with all the tricks I used the first few weeks to get my protein in before I could have hard meats and cheeses.  Your pouch is like a newbie post-op still.

I also ate thinned instant mashed potatoes with unflavored Unjury stirred in it.

Thank you! I am going to buy some today.
Yesterday I ate more dense protein... it was not a whole lot but it was better than before. I still had oatmeal for breakfast- I am scared of eggs from throwing them up so many times. Lunch I had thin sliced chicken breast- no matter how hard I chewed and how small the bites were, after 1 piece was done I was miserable for a good 30 minutes. I moved on to cheese cubes that I made for the kids. For dinner I hate a chicken salad. I put grilled chicken in it, shredded carrot, shredded cheese, and soft turkey bacon diced. I was able to tolerate a little bit here and there. The lettuce and tomato, cheese and carrot were the easiest to go down. The turkey bacon was so/so, and the chicken was pretty hard to handle still but I was able to get a few pieces in it just took longer and a LOT more patience since it hurt going down no matter how much I would chew.
OVERALL... I was not so hungry in between. So I guess it did help. I am going to buy the unjury protein so I can sprinkle it on things. I never knew about it. Thank you for advice!

I think surgeons should take eggs OFF the menu of foods for post-ops until about 6 months out.  They  think because scrambled eggs are "soft" that they are good for newbie post-ops and it JUST ISN'T SO!  Nearly everybody I know has trouble with scrambled eggs early out because they are like rubber in your pouch.  Chicken is another food that is hard early on and some long term post-ops have trouble also.  I know I do if I am not careful and chicken is the only food I ever got stuck.  Hamburger is much easier for me or deli ham.  My husband does most of the cooking and he tries to make all the meats with sauces so they go down easier.

For me, chicken is easier than red meat. I tried chop meat and all kinds of red meat cooked all different ways, even stewed, and I cannot take a tiny little bite without it getting stuck. Chicken is easier and sometimes I can boil it like my Italian grandmother did and it is not so bad, but I still have problems. That is why I do the chicken in a can like tuna- I can shred it to thin little pieces and mix it with ff mayo. I really wish I could do eggs... I love egg salad. The last few days I have been increasing my protein by drinking a shake 3xs a day and lost 4lbs. YAY.

oh my lord Sarah, i totally agree with you on this! I coudlnt eat a scrambled egg unti i was at least 6 months post op and that was only if *I* cooked it so  i could be sure it really was scrambled soft! Still can only do them that way. At 3.5 years post op, can just now have a bite of chicken here adn there!

If I were you I'd insist my doctor checked me for a stricture.  It's not normal that you can't tolerate hardly anything.  Vomiting is horrible for your pouch and esophagus.  I would keep a food journal for a week then make an appt to speak with him.  Show him in writing what you tried to eat and write down how many times you vomited or got "stuck" with each food.  Then insist on an EGD to check for a stricture.

I tried to argue with my surgeon when I saw her a month ago. I have been having problems since the day of surgery. The day of surgery I started throwing up up until I was released. I was dry heaving a lot too. Even with meds. They still sent me home and said I was fine. I kept in touch with my nut constantly the first 2 months because I was having so many problems. They kept saying I have a sensitive pouch. My surgeon said it can't be a stricture because it is not all the time & it is only with certain foods. She said since I can eat the canned chicken I should be ok. I tried to insist that there was something wrong, she said my pouch is sensitive. She also said that my sugery was the smoothest one she has ever done and she was surprised I had any trouble at all. She said I was the first one to not need a drainage tube (didn't know they used them) and that I had great stomach muscles and it went so smooth. She said it was a very fast and effortless surgery and she can't believe, of all people, had problems. I tried and tried to convince her I had issues since day 1, and she refuses... I am moving to Fort Benning, GA in 2 months and I hope to have a new doctor and I hope things will be different.

I'm so sorry she's so resistant to "check her own work".  What have you got to lose by doing the test?  Sounds like she might have a little ego involved in this decision.  I pray you find another doctor in GA that will LISTEN to your complaints.  I just hate that you're going to have to wait that long for answers.
