an update on my husband, Jim's, surgery
My husband, Jim, had surgery on Friday to remove his cancerous left kidney. The surgery was supposed to take 3-3 1/2 hours. At about 2 1/2 hours, I was summoned to a conference room. I waited in this tiny, freezing cold room for about 10 minutes. It was the longest 10 minutes of my life! In the past, his surgeon would find me in the waiting room to give his report. So this really scared me. When the doctor walked in, he was smiling!!! The surgery went very well. I didn't know whether to slap him silly or hug him!
This was major surgery so it's expected to be having the pain that he is. They're trying to stay on top of it with a morphine drip and oral pain meds. He fired the night shift nurse last night! He just wasn't responding to Jim's pain and told him that there were other patients doing much worse than Jim that he had to tend to. Wrong thing to say!!! His kidney function isn't quite where they'd like it so he's getting a unit or two of blood today. And walking is the order of the day. And chewing gum to wake his lower parts up.
Please continue to lift him up in prayer.

Janet

I'm delighted to read the update on your DH. I am praying for relief from pain, that his remaining kidney will function well, and that he'll be up and "running" in no time. :) Please get some rest. I'm sure you're exhausted.
Surrounding you in Prayer,
Mary
