My only comment on this is, I believe your doctor will be out of business quickly by doing this.

George,

She might and she might not.  She is older and I know that my parents dentist has been cash only for years.  Right now, she is still the only diabetic endocrinologist in town and she currently has 3 times the number of patients she can handle.

I think that is is going to be much more common now and something we all need to be aware of.

I too pondered reply or not - but you made a comment that I HAD to reply to. My spouse and I no longer have health coverage as of 8/1/09 - as his employer chose to eliminate it as an employee benefit as a cost-cutting measure. When your employer discontinues coverage, the employee is NOT able to COBRA.

We have searched and searched for a carrier to cover us that we can afford since I am still not working and just going to school full-time. We even tried to get student coverage for me, but I am too old. Due to all of my health complications including not just the wls, but other serious health situations I have, we were not able to find any coverage that we could afford.

My point here is that we are NOT choosing to not have health coverage - we simply cannot afford any of the policies that we could find that would cover me. I think everyone is entitled to several things in life - including decent health care, adequate food and shelter, and a well-rounded education. Unfortunately, there are way too many people who are not getting any of these things. Something has to change.

The other thing that I truly feel we need to be looking at is the ridiculous cost of health care in general. I was in the ER back in September (and did not have coverage then) and for the 12 hours I was there I got a bill for nearly $20,000.00. I called to ask why and was informed that since I am bi-polar they had to have a mental health watch on me also. I have no idea what it was as the treatment I got that day was less then the treatment I had when I was in ICU for 3 days. It is just ludicrous.

I am not sure if the answer is Obama's proposed health plan, but it can't be any worse then how things are right now, in my opinion. My family has no freedom of choice right now and I  know we are not the only people in the US suffering this way.

Paul, look at the VA hospitals to get a true picture of how this crap will work if passed. The people in the world who should get the best of care are **** on by our government on a  daily basis. The government runs the VA's, look into it people and you will see how the obama care will be ran.

I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.

GREED is a scary thing.

These doctors and insurance companies have lived like FAT CATS making 4-5-6x's what  other cultured nations healthcare workers make.. you've got nurses doing all the work making 50k.. while a doctor bilks insurance and makes 2million a year...

Insurance companies and doctors are going to have to reign in the greed they've delighted in all these years...

You've got insurance companies who've paid republicans 2-3-4million dollars over the last 8 years to keep up the "It's socialism" diatribe...

that 2-3-4million couldve went to price cuts... instead of borking people to keep things the way they are..

Just gonna say one thing about insurance and then get out of the debate.

TOM WOULD BE DEAD TODAY IF WE HAD NOT HAD AND PAID FOR QUALITY INSURANCE.

Healthcare has always been rationed.  It used to be rationed by whether or not you could pay/barter/whatever in order to see the doctor, It's been rationed by insurance companies via networks, deductibles and copays, and will continue to be rationed by market forces regardless of your political bent.

Healthcare is completely jacked. I could write a total dissertation on how hard it is for providers to be paid by any payor, but I'm actually trying to ensure that we stay in MCARE/MCAL compliance at work today.
