Viactiv for Calcium?
Hello! I have a question I was hoping someone can answer. Does anyone know if Viactiv Chocolate Calcium chewables are sufficient for calcium? I know there was a difference mentioned before about calcium citrate...I do not recall what it was or what is good to take. Thanks!

Well....you will get MANY different answers on this one. Viactiv is Calcium carbonite.....that is NOT the best calcuium for bariatric patients !!!! Calcium citrate is. Now that being said....I took Viactiv for about 2 yrs....I am almost 4 yrs post op. Have no problems with calcium. BUT I did switch to Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate. I have a family history of osteoperious and I did NOT want that and since we do not absorb everything I wanted to take the very best out there for max absorbtion. well, those are calcium carbonate. We were told on Ft Bragg by the surgeons and nutritionist to use only calcium citrate. I had already bought 2 boxes of viactive, so they are just sitting here. It's something about how your pouch breaks down the different calcium. I go to vitamin shoppe and get clacium citrate they are 12.99. Im not sure once your your maybe a year or more out, if it makes a difference or not
Viactiv is calcium carbonate. If you had RNY you will not absorb the calcium in carbonate forn. Sorry. I have just gotten calcium citrate chewable in lemon flavor from bariatriceatring.com. They have a good lemon flavor but is a little grainy. I think I can get used to them. Prior to that I took Calcium petits I got at wal-mart but the brand has just sliped my mind, What you are taking is like takeing nothing at all.
