Question for the Ladies Please!!

So here is the deal... me and the boyfriend haven't had sex since the 6 month diet started last year... I the super careful girl, who always used condoms and birth control pills just so I wouldn't be paranoid that I would become prego. I talked wiith him about everything and explained that it would be awhile before I would feel comfortable having sex again because I didn't exactly know about started up on the pill again post-op... I called the Dr. today and they said to start them again as soon as possible. It kind of worried me...

Well, my sex drive is in OVERDRIVE for some reason. I know women become very fertile after surgery, and my hormones are obviously going CRAZY!!! I gave into temptation last Friday night, and although condoms were used, I'm still freakin myself out since I haven't made it to my gyno. to start on my pills again. I am going tomorrow though, FOR SURE!!! I feel so sorry for my BF because I told him, NO MORE until 18 months is up!! Just to be safe! I know we have the 18 month waiting period so our bodies are getting more back to normal! I know I will probably always be more fertile since I'm going to be so much healthier!!! I think I'm just freaking out for nothing!

I have a couple of questions: 1. is there any others out there who's sex drives were outragous after surgery? 2. Should I be worried that maybe JUST a condom wasn't good enough???  3. Is the pill effective after WLS? I've heard different stories and read many different ideas on this... although most pregnancies I've seen, the parteners didn't also use a condom, I'm just curious about this later in life!!

My GYN said he was afraid that I wouldn't absorb the pill right and that it might not be as effective.  He recommmended the NuvaRing for me.  Now I have had my tubes tied and my problem was the hormonal changes I have been going through.  So you might want to talk to your GYN about absorbtion issues and make sure the pill is right for you.  YOu are correct in being very careful.  But I think you are probably ok.  I would probably use both birth control and condoms.  I would be like you.  I would freak out that I would get pregnant.

How are you doing?  I haven't heard from you in a while.  I go for my 2 year check up in a couple of weeks.  I am doing ok.  The only problem I am having is keeping my blood sugar up.  I got sick a couple of weeks ago and it's just taking me a while to get back to "normal".

AAWW Teena, you always ease my worries!!!! I understand the being sick part!! I was too!! I had a check up ysterday and a group meeting... I have lost 56 lbs all together!!! WOW!! That sounds so crazy!! I'm eating well and trying to maintain the protein and liquids... I think it's gotten harder further out because I wanna try and get lazy. I also started working out about a week or 2 ago and I am feeling GREAT!!!!

I am also worried about the absorption part... that is what I've read on the internet, so I am very curious. I am just going to have to talk to my dr. tomorrow! I have a appointment @ 11:45! YAY!!! I have been super busy this summer. It's the first summer I'm taking summer classes, so it's been crazy! I haven't posted much, but I'm always lurking!!! :)

Girl you are doing amazing!!!  It will get harder the farther out you are.  Just keep reminding yourself why you had this surgery.  I was so afraid of getting sick that it kept me from venturing out too far at first.  Now I will try a few things but I don't really want to know if I can handle something because it was those somethings that got me to the point of needing the surgery.  It's great right now because there is so much fresh fruit out that I just love.  Right now I am a little below where I was last year at this time so I am hoping that I can stay there until my appt on the 29th.  I am happy with where I am right now.  I just want to be able to stay here.  I still fear being a failure because I know there are those people that were in my life that are just looking for me to fail so they can say "I told you so".  Luckily for me my immediate family is very supportive and I have all these great people here on the TMB that are there for me.

Let me know what the GYN says.  I have friends that are using the NuvaRing that love it.  You can take it out and put another one in if you don't want to have a period one month.  For me I think I would stress not having one as much as I hate them.LOL

Stacy,

At your age you need to worry about the preggers risk big time.  Can't advise on specifics there since I'm not qualified.

As to wanting to wear the BF out because of the hormones raging - by all means, once the BC issue is resolved, wear his ass out!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Stacey,

I actually just asked doctor about BC too. I have been on Nuvaring since right before surgery.....well I have been spotting/bleeding since a week after surgery. Doc said NO BC pills, they don't absorb....other options: Nuvaring, Patch, IUD. I am moving from the Nuvaring to the Patch and hopefully my life will get back to normal.....so when does this crazy sex drive kick in? Or is it because of my BC......I am waiting. LOL

I didn't have RNY, but I do use nuvaring.  I love it!  I've used it for probably 4 years now and wouldn't go back.  I switched because I was forgetting to take my BC pills.   I also like that I can skip my period if I so choose (which I usually do)

ok girl friend here is what I know from MY EXPERANCES AND MY DOCS take it for what it is worth

pills - don't absorb so great post op - in some peeps - depends
nuva ring - suppose to be great option - my insurance won't cover it
patch - not effective over 250 pounds of body weight
shots - depo - works great IF you tolorate it (my hubby says it works great as bc for us b/c I become such a biotch he doesn't want to share the state with me much less the bed)
IUD - works well - a lot of folks put on about 10 pounds with it, hormones!!
condoms - you know that drill -works great when used 100% of the time with no slips or tears

sooooo I sure the heck was not going with out after surgery - we did a combo of pill and condoms for a year till we were ready to get preggers (hubby is army and we were scheduling pg around a possible deployment - doc told me 18 months would have been better)

now we are using the IUD - I gained about 10 pounds the month I got it put in - lost it the next month once I relized what was going on - not a big deal (ok was at the time but not in the general scheam of life)

my sex drive went a LOT nuts post op - remember all those hormones peeps warned you about  being released from the stored fat into your body - well some make for PMS and some make for high sex drive - I know that for me working out at the gym ups it too b/c of the happy endorphants.

so talk to your OB take the top portion of this post in with you and discuss pill vs ring vs iud vs shots and then add condoms to what you are using if it will make you feel better

and believe you me - sex gets much more fun as you get smaller - yep you jiggle more but its worth it to be able to enjoy being able to move your body more in differnt ways -

peace

YEAH!! So happy this is normal!!!

My doctor had to cancel my appointment on Friday and I have been re-scheduled for the 3rd of August, but I'm def. going to discuss options with her.

I know we didn't have and slips or tears when we got busy with it the last time, but I told him to ease my paranoid mind, we need to wait until I start another form of birth control. I'm def. going to ask the doctor about my options. I have heard a lot of people using the ring, I just don't really know anything about it. I'm going to look into and see if my insurance covers it and what not. If not I will just stick with my monthly pills. When I called Dr. B, they didn't seem too worried about the absorption, they just let me know that now it's more important then EVER to make sure I follow the taking it at the SAME time everyday direction. I think if my insurance doesn't cover the ring, I will be ok with my pills and condoms for the 18 months, plus some... Lord knows I'm not ready for kids anytime soon!

Thanks for all the advice and taking the time to ready my post ladies!! It was very helpful!! :)
