I had my surgery in Houston, so I can't answer your question, but I wanted to encourage you. Blood clots are a risk of every surgery, but they are unlikely to happen to you if you follow your surgeon's orders. My doc wanted me up and walking 4 hours after surgery. Strolling in your room or around the nurse's station every few hours will greatly diminish the threat of blood clots. I know you will hear it from others, but it really is the truth...sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk, and you will be fine.
Good luck and I can't wait to have you on the loser's bench!

Hey girl!! Not in Houston, but I want to let you know that I just had surgery in May, on the 18th to be exact and I can say without any doubt that this is has been the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've lost almost 55 lbs, in 2 months. I could have never done that with my surgery. I have had some struggles with eating, and wanting stuff that I can't have but I've become very in tune with life after surgery. As long as you're doing EVERYTHING your dr. says you will be fine... if you're worried about blood clotts, then make sure you keep up with walking after surgery to keep things moving good!!! Everything will be great and in a couple of months, you won't believe what is happening to you!! :)
Your doctor should give you a blood thinner shot before surgery. If he hasn't mentioned it, you might want to ask. They should also put compression foot pumps on you during surgery and leave them on until you're up walking to aid in circulation. Now what else can we help you with? No need to be scared just prepared, lol. Good luck and keep those questions coming.
