Surgeon who ENCOURAGES disorderly eating... .2 year post op!!!!
Jessica I have read and re-read your post numerous times over the past several days and have wanted to comment but have refrained. After reading your posts over the past several months you have repeatedly complained about not losing enough weight. No where do you mention your BMI or height and weight. I wonder if Dr B was just trying to help you attain your goal. He is extremely busy and I can't imagine him suggesting he make your pouch smaller to boost his statistics. That makes no sense to me. I wonder if you somehow misunderstood. I'm having a hard time with you bashing him on a public forum where he doesn't have a chance to respond. He is a very highly rated surgeon and I've never experienced anything inappropriate in his comments or actions. He actually told me at 168 lbs that as far as he was concerned I had reached HIS goal and that he was very proud of me. I have since lost down to 155 and am perfectly happy there.
I agree, it sounds to me like you definately have an eating disorder. You seem to obsess about all of it including exercise. Continue to work with those that make you feel comfortable and are helping you to have a healthy lifestyle. It's important that YOU are happy and getting the help you need.

RNY revision from lapband 7/30/07...TT/BL 10/9/08 and at GOAL
I am in no way bashing Dr. Barker. I absolutely agree that Dr. Barker is a great surgeon. I would not trade my experience. However, I did find my experience with him at the 2 year post op to be offensive, and I am just sharing my experience with those on the Texas board. I thought that this board was for those who needed encouragement, help, and support.... I, actually, had gone into that appointment very proud of myself. However, for him too look at the number on the scale only, and to make a suggestion that he could go back in and give me a smaller pouch for 30lbs? That to me is ridicolous in order to be "perfect". I wish I had misunderstood, but I did not. I have written about not losing "enough" weight based on the comparision of other people, I didn't feel like I was where I needed to be. Dr. Barker and I did not discuss a "goal" weight. I do not know why he would have suggest making my pouch smaller-- it was a thought if it were based on statistics or if he truly thought that I had not lost enough. Losing 152lbs, and being where I am I think it alright. I do not go based on BMI's anymore because that does not take into account how athletic you are... I apologize if you have found my previous posts "complaining". As far as, my eating disorder, I do have one-- I do know that. However, for the surgeon to suggest that I don't and its just a "lifestyle" change that I committed to, and told me actually not to eat carbs either because if you look back at pre-historic that they did not have grains, breads, etc.... but meat and veggies. I think you have missed the point of my post. It wasn't to bash Dr. Barker.... It was to simply point out from my own experience during my visit that he told me the previous mentioned things.
1) exercise 2x daily
2) eat only 1100 calories or less
3) no carbs (even after I shared with me that my nutritionist and dr wanted me to add them)
4) making my pouch smaller through going back under
If you find that offensive or bashing toward Dr. Barker than I apologize. However, I will not apologize for sharing my experience with him.
