Was wondering from those of yall that have been diagnosed with an ulcer what the symptoms were? For the past few weeks almost everything I eat except for (oatmeal, cereal and toast). makes my stomach hurt and I feel nauseous. I'm going to cook a pot of beans today to try and get more protein in see how that does. I'm a little over two years out and have not had any problems with food until now. hmmmm?

Lynette,

I think I probably have a minor one, but haven't been officially diagnosed, so I'm no help there,
but are you taking a daily antacid?

I take a pepcid every day. It's not really bad pain just irratating. But the other night after I ate a corn on the cob and T-bone got so sick had to take a Phenergan. Haven't had to do that since the early days.

i dont have an ulcer *knock on wood* but everything i have read states you may wanna switch to prilosec instead ot the pepcid.  i know its not cheap but i get it at sams/costco in the store brand and its TONS cheaper that way. Just a thought...
hope you feel better soon

Yep!  That's what I had.

Thought it was gall bladder but it's what my child calls a "marginal ulcer" - common in about 10-20% of WLS patients.

I know I am non-surgery but here are my 2 cents... I was diagnosed with gastritis (Beginning of an ulcer) when I was in high school by winding up in the ER. My sternum area was VERY tender. During a flare up I felt like I had to go to the bathroom, nauseous, and the pain was so intense that I kept blacking out. I was very hot, dizzy, and lost vision. They put me on several perscriptions, told me to eat a bland diet (And stop taking Advil and OJ. oops) and I rarely have trouble anymore unless I have a lot of spicy or acidic foods. I can tell if I do by my sternum area getting tender and I have to go back to the bland diet for several days to let is calm down again.

Lynnette, call your surgeon and get scoped....those foods you speak of are often recommended for people with ulcers and since that works for you it's a possibility of what you are feeling.

Dry beans should be ok, along with potatoes (not the best but it's good for ulcers).  Actually stay away from high fat (peanuts, fried foods, butter, etc) and spicy foods, caffiene, acidic foods (vinegar, tomatoes, citruis fruit)

I rarely eat anything fried and don't eat nuts. But I still drink coffee but have cut it in half. I make two cups in the morning and than wash the coffee pot. Except the other night had a cup late at night. I think I will stay on a bland diet for a while and see what happens. Even the one glass of wine I had last Friday night at Pete's made my stomach hurt. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Hello, You know I had an issue, and we thought it was an ulcer, come to find out it was scar tissue, that was causing all the pain when i ate. Just a thought.
