lol. You reminded me! I have a VHS of our wedding and reception. And I got rid of all the VCRs a couple of weeks ago. Oh, the irony!!!

I don't think it makes our marriage either. Heck, I've even proposed selling my engagement ring because at one time we needed the money. (If he's objecting to me selling my wedding gown, you can only guess how *that* went over.)

The engagement ring.... now that is a different story.  Mary had the stone from her engagement ring reset in another ring and that really bothered me.  Of course, it does not make the marriage, but it was a symbol to me.  A symbol that she wore daily.  I told her it was her ring, and her choice, but I know deep inside I wanted her to say she decided not to.  Guess it is my fault for not being vocal about it.  But we survive.  Still happy.  35 years happy.

I haven't worn my engagement ring in at least 4 years. Pre-op, it had gotten too small and post-op, it's too big. I don't adore the setting as much as I once did, so if I'm going to keep the stone, I'd like to have it reset, but then I'm putting more money into something that already cost a fortune. Honestly, we could use the money in better ways. That whole 2 months salary guideline that the diamond industry peddles really is a total scam.

I love the eternity band that I wear now that I got for our 10th anniversary. It's not as bulky as my engagement ring and it fits my finger.

Consider me frugal, or consider me cheap.

I bought our 2 wedding rings and her engagement ring.  They were all white gold.  The engagement ring was 1/4 carat.  I paid $98 for the three pieces at the Base Exchange.

1. You got married before DeBeers started their marketing machine.
2. You bought at the Base Exchange. You didn't pay all those extra taxes and mark-up that regular retail saddles us with.

I am in the same boat as you with mine.  I want to make mine into a sexy red dress but can't find anyone to cut it and then a long one two with a small train to wear on our anniversary.  However, no one wants to cut it.  I guess I am not sure what to do.  It's perserved and fireproofed now but its not like i can see it in a box and it just takes up space.

Mine has a little window on the front of the preservation box that I can see the top of it and my veil.

There are lots of alteration shops out there that specialize in bridal. I'm sure you can find someone to alter yours into what you want. Grab the phone book and just start calling.

I would sell it.  I intend to sell mine.  There is an Ebay consignment shop in Frisco, and it will be headed there one day when I have the time and inclination at the same time.  Mine is a 36W.  Holy crap!  I am a 20 now, and shrinking.

IF your hubby is like mine, I have to introduce an idea and let him chew on it for a bit, then he usually comes around.

Hopefully he'll adjust to the idea before he gets home from Atlanta on Friday. I'm planning to scan a couple of our wedding photos before I pack the scanner so I can put it up for sale this week.

here is my 2 cents
my first wedding dress I kept for yrs (kept the dress about twice as long as the husband) BUT when I knew someone who due to $s was getting married in reg clothes ( not even a new to her outfit) I dug it out n enjoyed altering it for her - it gave me a huge! amount of plesure to see a dress that was made with love for me literally make someone elses wedding

my dress with Tim his mom changed the pattern and had made (I planned to make it) I looked like I was pg in it - I was a good size 28 at the time - I got rid of it the first time we moved - literally dropped it off at goodwill

this said - I have other items I don't wear or use but bring a smile to my face - I am moving them - I have downsized twice now dramatically - there are things I have moved literally over 15 times b/c they are useless but mean something to ME

so does it make you (or Mikey ) smile to see that box in the top of the closet? does it bring back happy memories? or is it a "trophy" you feel like you "should" keep?

peace my friend
