Looking at this protein shake...
I can certainally agree with you. Have been on Optifast now 32 days. Once I tried the vanilla and started using the sugar free syrups from World Market (Turni I think I did also see them at Walmart) I was pretty good to go though I teased it was not a meal just putting gas in the tank. On a positive note I lossed about 36lbs preop (just less than 10% of my starting weight) and have lost 18 post-op (around 13% of starting weight) already on those "crappy" shakes so they are working. I am beginning to try some pureed foods but only maybe a bite here or there really. Still on the shakes for most of my meals.
Scars are like tatoos, but with better stories.
It's hard, but well worth it. When I would get sick of the protein drinks, I would get on the internet and look up all the reasons why I was drinking them: reducing fatty liver for better surgery, faster recovery, getting my body used to loosing weight, getting through the physical withdrawl symptoms from my carb addiction... Dr. Davis had me on the Optifast drinks. I would put them in a blender with ice and eat them with a spoon. Not Blue Bell, but better than nothing. The only protien drink I have found that I like is Syntrax Nectar Chocolate Truffle, Cappachino, or Vanilla Bean Torte. I mix it with milk or soy milk first, then I mix it with decaf coffee. I also put it in the blender with frozen strawberries to make a soft serve thing. What tastes good before surgery may not taste good afterward, and what one person likes, another won't. Try samples when you can instead of buying a big container. The reason that I know I love the Syntax Nectar protien is that someone else hated it and gave me thier samples.
I'm right there with you, girl. Today was hard for me too. I wasn't hungry at all but the protein shake was NOT what I wanted to drink. I mix mine in a blender bottle then dump it in a ziploc bag and put it in the freezer. When it's slushy I put it in the Magic Bullet and whip it up. Something about it being REALLY cold and thick makes it a little more tolerable. A squirt of sugar free Hershey's syrup doesn't hurt either.
We can do this. We're almost there!

Thank you all for the support and suggestions! I went to the store this evening and walked around looking for things to make the shakes taste better.
I bought a couple SF syrups so we'll see how tomorrow goes.
Thanks again. I really appreciate everything. I know that these shakes are for the best right now and I'm drinking them. I'm just not liking them, lol. But tomorrow is another day and I will wake up with a good attitude!

You might also try finding your local health food/supplement/body building supply store. They often carry the protein powders in individual packs. You could buy a few packs and try them out. Also on line you can sometimes find individual packs. Don't give up on shakes! You may have to waste a little money and taste buds but you'll find one you like or at least don't hate.
