OT: Terry T/Liz....Galveston question
We are coming south the last week of July and I'm looking at two hotels.
With the Ike renovations most anywhere is like new again I'm guessing. Which would you guys recommend...or is there another better reasonably priced place?
The two are:
Inn at the Waterpark $79 per night
Tremont House $95 per night
Oh, any tips on discount tix for Schlitterbahn too?

79 a nite a the Inn at the Waterpark is a really good deal in the summer down here. Does Inn at the Waterpark give you a package deal with Shlitterbahn tickets maybe??? Otherwise, I've heard the going rates are more like 99.00 a nite and up!
The only thing that might be cheaper is Motel 6 and it's not in a very convenient place off the freeway.
Let me look at work for discount Schlitterbahn tix. I know we can get some tickets cheap but not sure if that is one of them.

Are those both nice hotels? They look like they are but pictures can always make stuff look better. Is the other place (Tremont) at the beach like it appears? I'd like a place with a view.
There were package prices but I couldn't tell if it was for waterpark tickets for every day or just one....the package price was like $250 a night...I'd think that'd be for park tix for every day.

The Tremont just reopened about 3 weeks ago. It is an old European style hotel on the Strand [HINT: real close to ME! and walking distance to MY Starbucks!!]
They are both nice hotels; the Tremont would be MY choice but I don't have little ones anymore either.
The Inn at the Waterpark is either on Seawall Blvd or really close to the Seawall. [Old brain cells aren't functioning yet this morning!!]
I'll make a drive by one nite this week and tell you what I see at Inn at the Waterpark!

So get this...we got a room with 2 queen beds at the Inn at the Waterpark for 4 nights for $273!!! Also, we will be getting a $50 visa card in the mail in the next 4 weeks for "gas" from Expedia.
Now, we can do pretty much anything with a good place to stay...we plan on getting supplies at Walmart(there) and loading the cooler and taking the EZ-up and beaching it a couple days and then maybe doing the afternoon thing at the waterpark. As it gets closer we'll post plans so anyone who can join us knows and is welcome to come along.

FYI about Schliterbaun, parking is free, tubes are free, and you can bring in your own food and drinks. This is a big money saver. They have little lockers you can rent cheaply, but they go fast. I suggest getting there when it opens, stake out a picnic table as home base, and if you want a locker, get one then. 2-day passes are a good deal. Our Schliterbaun isn't nearly as nice as the one in New Braunfels, but it is still alot of fun. Moody Gardens is right next door, and it has alot to offer as well. You can look them both up on the internet. I'll defer to Terry on the hotels. I haven't stayed in any except the San Luis once. The Rainforrest Cafe is really nice. It's expensive, but it's good for a vacation dinner with kids. There used to be a railroad museum at the strand, but I don't know if it is still there. It was great for kids.
