I recent sent both our U.S. senators a form eletter that was recommended by the Obesity Action Coalition, urging passage of the Obesity Prevention, Treatment and Research Act of 2008.   This was the response I received from Senator Cornyn (pretty neat!  ):

 Dear Mr. P______:

Thank you for contacting me about the Obesity Prevention, Treatment, and Research Act of 2008 (S. 3584). I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.

As you may know, S. 3584 was introduced in the Senate on September 25, 2008. This legislation would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to convene a United States Council on Overweight-Obesity Prevention with duties to include developing strategies to comprehensively prevent, treat, and reduce overweight and obesity. S. 3584 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions for further consideration. Though S. 3584 was not enacted prior to the adjournment of the 110th Congress, you may be certain that I will keep your views in mind should the Senate consider relevant legislation during the 111th Congress.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

By contrast, my identical letter to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson was responded to with one expressing gratitute for writing to her office about a totally different bill, not even related to obesity (specifically, H.R. 2, the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009)  ...

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "
