Citing confusion about a Texas bill that would establish requirements for child booster seats in vehicles, the Department of Public Safety issued detailed guidelines today.
Contrary to widely distributed wire stories that said all children under age 8 will be required to sit in booster seats, the DPS said the new law is a bit more nuanced:
• Children 8 and older, regardless of height, will not be required to sit in a booster seat or car seat and may simply buckle up using the car's belts.
• Children younger than 8 — but 4-foot-9 or taller — also will not be required to use a booster or car seat.
There are enforcement provisions in the law, too, DPS officials said.
While the law will take effect immediately once Gov. Rick Perry signs it or allows it to pass unsigned, it instructs officers only to issue warnings until June 1, 2010. Only then can officers actually write citations on the new law.
“This extra time between the effective date and the written offense date is to allow parents and caregivers ample time to become educated about, and obtain, the required safety seats or booster seats," according to the DPS statement.
Of course, an unexpected Perry veto would cause the law to revert to the current form, which requires approved safety seats for children less than 5 years of age and less than 3 feet tall.
However, Perry's office has indicated he will allow the new bill to become law.
Man, I sure hope we get some rain today. We are past parched!! Had a good weekend. Kept the two oldest GD's Fri. night and we left here early to go north of Denton and picked blackberries. They had a ball. Stopped at a few garage sales and they enjoyed that too. Sun. was full of housework. My house was in bad need of a really thorough cleaning and it got it yesterday. I was so tired last night I couldn't go to sleep for a long time. But at least I woke up to a clean house this a.m. Was plesantly surprised by the scale this a.m. and had lost 1 1/2 lbs. this week. Up to 94lbs. lost now. I love this band. Well, got to go get my girls. Y'all have a great one.
Blessings,
Carol

Good morning everyone,
What an awesome weekend I had. And I'm not even engaged yet. lol. That's still to come VERY soon. And look for a wedding possibly by the end of September. We discussed it last night and would really like to do it before Josh leaves for the Navy which is October 1st. So stayed tuned everyone.
Bryan, I am pleased to hear you are doing so well. Saying prayers for everyone. Have a great week. I hope it's a short week for all. I don't have to work for pay on Friday. That's when we are unloading my storage unit and moving the stuff over to Matt's place. I'll still be living with my dad though til we get married.

We Can Do Hard Things
Well, it's Monday again. On top of that, it's the week that I head to AL to see in-laws (looking forward to that) and to TN to see family (NOT looking forward to that). Please keep us in prayer for safe travel (we are driving) and for the visit to go well with my parents. They are getting older and apparently starting to have dementia issues - but refuse to go to the doctor and even if they did, that wouldn't be brought up as they deny there's anything wrong!!! UGH... Anyway, it's going to be an emotionally difficult two weeks coming up for me.
Other than that, it's the same old thing going on here. Trying to stop eating when I hit that first indication of I'm fully. The farther out, the more I'm able to eat and I have been overdoing it lately. Eating that 1-2 bites too many and being uncomfortable, etc for a while afterwards sometimes to the point that I ended up losing it all. :( Anyway.... I will get this back under control. Also working on stopping the emotional eating. Due to it, I've gained 10 pounds over the past year. UGH!!! I am not happy about that. The first 5 weren't so bad as I could fit into my 6s and 8s, but now I'm in 8s and 10s. Gotta get back in control and back down. I don't have many clothes that fit comfortably anymore and I refuse to go buy new ones in this size!!
That's it from here. Hope you all have a great week. Love and prayers for all. MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!
SUSAN-Something I noticed yesterday-I am MAKING myself eat when I KNOW I am full...now, how stupid is THAT????? I THOUGHT I blew off the "clean plate club" long ago. I was at a family reunion yesterday and ate so much I had to go lie down in the car in he 250 degree heat...I deserved the discomfort!!!
TODAY is a new day!!
