Preop Broth : Veggies an okay cheat?

I'm making a preop broth.... with celery, carrots, tomatoes, onions, parsley, oregano, garlic, and half a lb of stew meat...

It's a HUGE sauce pan... with only that small amount of meat.. I'm probably going to spread it across a few days..

How bad of a cheat would it be to have the ingredients too?

It's predominately liquid... and I put the unflavored nectar protein in it.. two packets..

I'm thinking of maybe having the veggies and ingredients in it on week1... then week 2... just do broth only..... all preop.. :)

I don't want to start a preop precedence of cheating...  but I think it'll help... weaning me down..

Depends- lots of Dr's-lots of opinions. The main reason for pre-op is to shrink your liver. Some doctors allow one meal a day-my nut said if I felt weak -choose a small high protein snack -like a string cheese stick-I did most days-but not the last couple of days- She said the main problem was
"Last Meal" thinking-people tended to overeat up to the very last night, making surgery much riskier-only you will know how much you are "cheating" -your soup doesn't sound like a big cheat to me -considering all the different diets I've read on here.

Listen to YOUR doctor.  Each one has different rules.  Part of the challenge of the liquid diet is to test your strength and willpower regarding compliance after surgery but the main reson is to shrink your liver and help you to lose some weight pre-op.

Good for you in taking control!! Gina is right. How well you do in this preop stage is a signifier of how well you will so post-op> It also makes the bowel prep the night before surgery easier and your surgery safer. Keep fighting the good fight!!
