About a month ago I read a thread where y'all were recommending your favorite protein bar.  By far the winner was Protein Crunch ( I THINK).  I haven't been able to find this bar.  Do I have the name right?  And if so, where do I find them?  Thanks.

CAROL..I'm in the minority, but I just never have cared for the Power Crunch bars. I've tried different flavors, tried them frozen, eaten them for free, etc..still...nope...don't like them...weird....I love the Zone chocolate mint  as an OCASIONAL thing, cuz they are not too great on protein. The "Pure Proten" bars are pretty good...very thick and last a long time in your guts..20gm of protein..2 gm sugar..my current box is 'chocolate deluxe"..I get them at WalMart-a box of 6 is about $6....They are NOT Snickers..but NOTHING is....in my opinion

Hi Gina,
Pure Protein is the one I eat too.  Not all the time, just 2 or 3 times a week.  But when I saw that recommendation I thought I'd try that one too.  Can't find them.  I'll try Vit. Shoppe.  To me the Pure Protein is the best of the ones I've tried.  I like the chocolate peanut butter best.  I'm going to try the other if it has as much protein in it as PP bars.  Thanks for the comments.

Here is a recipe to make your own.  Much better then anything you can buy.

2 cups raw oatmeal 1 cup protein powder - I have been using 1/2 cup unflavored and 1/2 cup choc pb protein mix 1/2 cup flax seeds 1/2 cup wheat germ 2 cups trail mix 1/2 cups ground walnuts 1/2 cup coconut 1 cup honey 2 cups peanut butter   Spray oil in 9x13 pan, spread mixture and cut

HOLLY-how big of pieces do you cut them them? How do you store them? How long will they keep? Do they freeze well? I'm asking cuz they look good and even easy enough for ME to fix!! Is the "trail mix" seperate or is that what you are calling the walnuts and coconut mixture? Is there any COOKING involved, ot do you just refrigerate, etc? It sounds kind of like the "protein balls" we used to make, nut this sounds less messy

To cut the bars, I cut them into 3 sections then use a Kashi Bar to cut the bars.  I just measured one and they are about 4 inches long by 1 1/2 wide. I get 18 bars out of a pan.  You have to keep them in the fridge.  They do well in the freezer but don't get extremely hard.  Not sure about how long they will keep as I eat one every day and my daughter has been eating them too so about every 9 days I have to make more.  For the trail mix you can really use anything you want.  The walnuts and coconut (which you can find unsweetened) are on their own.  If you want to make your own trail mix, you do 1 cup soy nuts ( ups the protein)  1/2 cup sunflower seeds, 1/2 cup banana chips (run thru the processor to break down into pieces) and 1/4 cup of a dried fruit.  No cooking, once you have them in the pan, put them in the fridge to set up and then cut.  The little snack size baggies work great.

Hope this helps.  They are really good.  And you can add or change to your own liking.

We made these bars the other evening and dang are they good.  When I need a little something I go get a bar, but we cut them small since I am a newbie.  We cut them in 2x1 bars.  It is just the right size for me.  Instead of using just regular honey, we did half SF honey, and half regular honey.  It helped cut down on the sugars.
They are high in protein also since they have the nuts and protein powder so it helps me get my protein in.

Thanks for the recipe.
