GETTING TO KNOW TEXAS- NEED FEEDBACK

Hi there. I am very interested in moving to Texas and would love to take a ride down there again to go look at the land. I need some cities that I might be interested in going to visit. Please advise.

I would like country or quiet living. Not too far from stores and highways. For now I would have to rent and I have big dogs that I will need to bring with me. Not just that, I also have 2 horse and will need to maybe rent some type of stable. I don't like the downtown areas or places where there so much traffic. I would love to go somewhere where it's accessible to everything with jobs- but I am willing to drive, no more than 40 minutes.

Things here in California are really bad and my husband hasn't been able to get any type of work. The cost of living is ridiculous and the people here are feeling the stress already. I need a change and my choices are either New Mexico, Texas or Arizona. It's a big move for us and yes little scary too.

Am I asking for too much?

Really. It's crazy huh. This is such a big move for us. For me it really doesn't matter cause I don't have family anyway. He does and it's big but he hardly sees them. Maybe this way he will go see them more often. LOL

I think that East Texas would be a good fit for you.   It is beautiful there.....Sulpur Springs is a really nice area.    You can be out in the country like 15 minutes from there.    I don't live in that area but we use to have a lake lot that direction and I love that area.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

What kind of work would you and your husband be looking for?  Some work is local only in major metropolitan areas, while some other type are available in the more rural areas?  Texas is a BIG place!  There is "country" within 15 minutes of Dallas city limits on one side of town and it would be an hour to the "country" on the other side of town.

Well I work in the Healthcare Industry- medical claims examiner. He is an Ironworker and has mechanic and welding backgrounds- he's very handy, but were both willing to change careers and do pretty much anything.

I just moved to the austin area from NY AND LOVE IT. I did the same thing...i wanted to move out of NY because it is so expensive....and asked people where in the country could i buy a nice house and be near stuff...so i went to see san antonio and austin based on people's recommendations. i liked SA to visit but wouldn't want to live there...austin was defintely a better fit for us. lots of shopping, lots of things to do...and housing is cheap, and the job market is stronger then most of the country. Austin is constantly rated as one of the top cities to live in ...for quality of life and value for money.
