Anti-depressant ??
On a follow-up note to my earlier post, we had an interesting presentation at our local DS group meeting last Saturday by Barbara Metcalf, Dr. Rabkin's RN ..
The particular topic was probiotics, and she mentioned how researchers have found out that probiotics seem to have a very good effect on the mood of depression/anxiety sufferers .. Just a thought as far as supplementation, if you're not already taking them ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

I started taking Cymbalta this year and it has made a major world of difference for me. I took effexor a long time ago but didn't like the dead feeling I had cause I just didn't cry at all. Seemed like nothing effected me.
So the Cymbalta really feels like my life saver. Good luck with finding what works best for you..

hey beautiful...nothing wrong wanting to find the help...that in itself is a big step! I have been on Welbutin and Kolonipin (sp?) for about 2 two months now, I can see a diffrence. The only thing with the welbutrin is that I can not take more than 1 pill a day...(150mg) most doctors like to see 300mg or higher....My kolonipin helps control my panic attacks and brings some much needed calmness; I take basically 1 pill aday...but it is quartered each time I take it....
You just have to try the meds, each of us are different and each of us will tolorate them differently, my doctor gave me samples until we found one that worked....
I can honestly say that I have been on and off meds for several years....and when my kids were saying "Mom your soooo stressed" or "Mom you need to calm down" I took that cue and ran to the doctor....no need to live like that when there is help out there.
We all love you baby girl

While I am bipolar, not depressed, I have rapid cycling bipolarism with a tendency to be more depressive then manic. Anyway - tried a number of drugs since I had wls to try and get the chemical imbalance corrected.
Tried Zoloft at first - did not work at all.
Tried Effexor (NOT time release) - did not work at all
Tried Efffexor (Time release) and worked for a while
Now I am Pristique - which is a new chemical formulation of Effexor - working great (been on it for about 6 months) and on Depakote (which is for the bipolarism more then depression)
I was taking Xanax for my anxiety attacks - and while it works great, I asked to be taken off of it as benzos are dangerous for those of us w/ addiction tendencies. There are some other non-benzos that work for anxiety attacks - not quite as well as benzos, but non-addictive.

July,
I started taking Cymbalta about a month ago and have been very pleased. I've never had to take an anti-depressant but after all the "challenges" this year and going thru menopause decided I needed it. Tell your Dr what your symptoms are and they will help pick the right one for you.
Your loved!
