Attention all you readers-looking for books for Emm's required reading next year.

I know we have lots of readers out here and Paperback book swappers.  I don't usually go book hunting, but have done it a bit more lately.

We were sent a letter about Emm's required reading for next year's Pre-AP class and i am hoping to snag copies before the year starts.  They are very hard to come by around here unless I order them and wait.  And i'm a tightwad and hate to buy new if I can recycle it.

I thought I would post the list if any of you have copies you would like to get rid of or do swaps and can pick up a copy.  I was thinking if you find something, maybe I could get it from you when I come up in July.  Just let me know how much you want for it.

Here's what she will read:

Ethan Frome - Edith Wharton
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
Night  -  Ellie Wiesel
Odyssey - Homer
Romeo and Juliet  ( guess who?)!

She also has to read before the end of summer:

Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Hurston

She will have to pick 4 of these to read next year:

Animal Farm
The Chosen
The House on Mango Street
Lost Horizon
The Martian Chronicles
A Raisin in the Sun
Treasure Island
True Women
Walkabout
Alive - Piers Paul Rand
Death Be Not Proud
The Hiding Place
Paddle to the Amazon
A Walk Across America - Peter Jennings

I don't have any of those books or you would be welcome to them.  Have you tried your local library?  I got all of my son's required reading books from our local library and some I had to request through inter-library loan.  The librarian can help with that if you don't have it online.

Sarah,

I haven't yet but I know i will.  My mom is on alert at her library as well.  Gave the whole list to the librarian.

Thanks for the offer and help.

I was an English major and have read many of the books on your list.  The only problem is that I didn't keep all of them!

I did find Ethan Frome, Great Expectations, and Animal Farm on my shelves.  Emm is welcome to them, no charge -- they're just old paperbacks, and classics are meant to share anyway.

You say you are coming up in July; do you mean to Dallas?

Yes!  In july for Steph's bbq.  That would be awesome if you don't want them anymore.

Thank you so much!  I will mark them off of my WANT list.

I am not far off the beaten path -- about three blocks east of U.S. 75 at the Knox-Henderson exit, in Dallas proper.  Let me know when you are ready to make plans.  If necessary I can just leave the books on my front porch for you.

thank you again.

OMG....Animal Farm.... AAAAUGH!  I absolutely HATED that book for whatever reason when I had to read it in school ions ago.  My oldest read it this past year and didn't care for it and my middle daughter read it only to help the oldest one out and didn't like it either.  Just funky.....
