Frustrated with my Surgeon...long

My dermatologist was livid when he saw my rash and I told him about my visit with dr barker about the rash.  He said that I was lucky that I wasn't starting to have any respritory issue.  We discussed the steroids and the surgery.  He basically told me the same thing that Kathy said in a previous post.  He gave me a steroid shot and an Rx for a course of prednisone.  He also gave me an Rx for an antibiotic to be on the safe side because of the surgery and told me to take my temp twice a day for the next week and to call if I have a temp over 100 degrees.  He also wanted to know who my dr is and was going to call him this afternoon.

Oh I forgot...my sweet husband called dr barker's office this morning to complain about the way that I was treated.

Dear Mary,

I'm so sorry about all that you had to go through lately. I hope you get to feeling well very soon. It's good that you went to your derm for help. You are doing all the right things trying to take care of yourself.

God Bless you,

Carolyn
Have a great day!

Thanks so much carolyn!!  I am actually sitting her comfortably for the first time in a week instead of scratching my skin off.  I am lucky that I have a really good relationship with my derm.

Hooray for your proactive Derm and SHAME on Dr. Barkers whole office for their LACK of treatment for what could easily have been the beginning of an anaphylactic episode!

Mary,

Are you still taking any pain killer?  I had rash post-op and come to find out it was the liquid hydrocodone.  I misread the label and thought "tsp" meant tablespoon and not teaspoon.  Was getting way, way too much and had a reaction.  Backed off the med and rash cleared completely away after 7-10 days.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Thankfully, I haven't had to take any pain meds since a week and a half ago.

I also thought that drs are weird about taking each other's patients.  I still haven't decided what I am going to do.

Thanks everyone for you thoughts and suggestions,
Mary

I am sorry about what you have went through.  There was no reason you should have been treated that way.  I love Dr. Thompson and if he was gone they should have told you.  It's not like him to do a patient like that.  I am glad he at least called you.  Most surgeons won't take another surgeons patient.  I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to go back.  I only go back for my regular checkup with Dr. Barker.  My PCP and GYN handle my labs and anything else that I have concerns with.  I know that if it is something that Dr. B needs to know that they will send me back to him.  I would recommend Dr. B to anyone I know.  He is an awesome surgeon.  I have never had any problems with him or his office staff.  But I would also recommend to anyone that has this surgery to have a PCP that you tust to help with your follow up.  I'm glad you have a good Dermatologist that you can work with.

Who is your dermatologist by the way?  Since I have had this surgery I now have adult acne and I am wanting to see a good doctor to help me with it.  I've never had to much a problem with this so I am not sure how to handle it.

I've been using Peter Hino for about  7 yrs now.  He is wonderful.  He is at presby on walnut hill a block or so off 75.  I've had adolesent acne, adult acne and I am sure I will have geriatric acne.  Although, the last two years or so my face has been the clearest it has ever been.  I like him because every other derm that I have been to wants you to go in for a check up every 3-6 months as long as they are Rxing something for you.  With him, if you are doing well, he only says you have to come in every two years.  And he is awesome in emergencies, like when I called last friday, he saw me that day during his lunch break.  He has been in D Magazines best drs forever.

I've used tazorac for a couple years now and retin-A before.  Every once in awhile, I have to do a course of antibiotics because I get cystic acne, but I haven't done that in awhile.  Dr. Hino shares his office with another derm, dr herndon.  He is supposed to be really good also.  If you are a first time patient, it can take awhile to get in to see him, but once your are a patient, you can get in really quick. Here is his info http://www.dermcenterofdallas.com/DrHino.html

Thankfully now I am itch free and my rash is just about gone...I have a couple more days of prednisone and then I'll be all good.
