1st post op weigh in.. down 31#
Hi,
Well, I'm back from my post op class and first weigh in since surgery on 6/1.
I'm down a total of 31# since I first started this whole process in April. About 20 since the actual date of surgery.
I'm happy with it, DD says when was the last time I lost 31#'s.. and I agree. It is great.
My problem however is that the protein is getting harder and harder to take.
I'm not a milk girl, and up til now I was pretty much drinking them down as fast as I could.
Lately it's getting harder and harder to get it down.
I tried the protein water from The Vitamin Shoppe and hated it, and will be going to GNC today to try their version of it. I'm hoping something will be a fit.
I can have fruits now, so I'll also be trying to add some banana's/ strawberries and or blueberries in to hopefully kick the flavor up a bit.
Any advice?
Monica

Congrats 31 lbs is awesome!! Sorry you're having such a hard time with the protein. Some people take the liquid protein bullets and pour them into their crystal light to "water them down". GNC will let you return anything you don't like so ask them for suggestions.

hey..
congrats on your weight loss!!! Definately check out vitamin shop and GNC for samples so you dont end up with a big tub of something you hate. A lot of the Nectar ones you miix with water and crystal light instead of milk. Also, careful wtih addin in the high sugar fruits like bananas. At over 3 years out, bananas is not one i can tolerate a lot of. Berries are great, just not nanas.

Edited to add - the ones with milk can be kicked up with 1/4 package of SF pudding mixes. I do that a lot as well. Just toss some dry mix in there, you get diff flvors with no added sugars or cals.

I am like you....I do not like milk or anything that resembles it. I used to drink milkshakes and malts but really they were more like soft serve ice cream. I was never able to find a protien shake that I could get down if it was milky. I discovered the fuzzy navel flavor of Nectar and I love it. It is good just mixed with water but fantastic mixed with either natural orange or tangerine/strawberry crystal lite. I try to get a couple in each day since my DH is vegetarian and I cook no meat. He can't tolerate the smell of it. I buy rotisserie chicken and precooked chicken and beef strips and eat meat when we eat out. I used to buy the bullets but was told that they really were not absorbed very well and I like the nectar much much better. I order mine from bariatriceating.com but some say some smoothie Kings sell it. The one near me doesn't. I believe earlier today someone posted a site where you could get samples of a dozen or so nectar flavors for a really good price. Hope you find something you can enjoy and not just tolerate. We are all different. What one person loves another finds yuky. Keep searching, you will eventually find one you like.
Woo Hoo! Great news on the 31 pounds. And it's good to see you posting on the TMB.
As far as the protein goes, just keep trying 'til you find something you can tolerate. I wouldn't worry too much about it this early out. Just get down what you can manage. It will get better over the next few weeks. I have good luck with the Adkins Protein Drinks, they're not as high in protein as some of the others, but they taste pretty good and are better than nothing. I really like the Caramel and Mocha Latte flavors, but they're kind of hard to find. Best place in CC has been HEB Plus.
Also the last couple of days I have been drinking Muscle Milk in ready-to-drink bottles. They are low in sugar and have 25 grams of protein. They even have those at Valero and Stripes. Strawberries and Cream and Cookies and Cream flavors were good. I bought Vanilla Cream tonight, but haven't tried it yet.
Just a reminder, Dr. Patel's plan calls for only one serving a fruit a day, unless it has changed since my surgery. Take it easy, fruit has lots of sugar.
