Damn girl..... I don't know if I'd have the guts to call them!!!!!!!!   But... Yeah I'd like to see these people get "theirs" so to speak... but the officer that took the report said it almost impossible to catch these people.  Which really just ****** me off... I'd like to see them fry!!!!

Paige,

Sorry you are going through this, this happened to me a couple of years ago, and twice within a 3 month period.  I know it's a pain in the a**, mine was thought a third party insurance carrier I had at the time.  Be thankful that you caught it when you did.  I bank at a fairly small bank, so they now call me when there is anything "suspicious" going on with my account.  Hang in there, it will all work out!

Blessings,
Avis

Sorry for all the pain and aggravation - BELIEVE ME - I know what you are going through!

I ended up changing banks because of the way Chase (formerly WAMU) handled mine.  Like Avis, I went with a smaller local bank where they will get to know me and handle things personally instead of anonymously from a call center.

My daughter had the same experience when she was in college about 10 years ago.  At that time she was not considered a victim.  The stores where checks were written and accounts opened were the "victims".  She had moved from Dallas to Austin.  The theft occured in Dallas and she was at UT.  She was in the middle of final exams and I could not do any of the calls or legwork for her as she was over 18.

She was told that these people had about a 3 day window of opportunity and would then move on to other victims.  It takes about 3 days for Telecheck to get info on bad checks so in the meantime they can write checks without them being denied.  Once Telecheck starts denying checks they move on.  These people had printed checks with my daughter's info and her father's info.  The woman even went to Staci's bank ( the branch she always used and should be known) wrote a $400.00 check and printed her name (she did not sign it)  The bank cashed it.
My daughter is a tall, fair, redhead.  She was 20 at the time.  This woman was 40 at least, short, and black.  It was a nightmare.  The woman tried to open an account at Nordstroms.  I got a call from the credit card company asking if Staci was shopping.  I knew she wasn't since she was studying for exams.  I knew for sure when I found out the store was in Dallas and Staci was in Austin.  The credit card company told Nordsrom to stall the lady and tell her to come back in an hour or so.  Thats when they called me.  They flaged the account and had a security guard keeping an eye on her.  Well somehow they goofed.  She went to a different cashier and that cashier must have ignored the flag and she was allowed to purchase  a TV on a new account in my daughter's name.  I don't know what happened to the security guard.  Another flag should have been that for ID she showed a Texas DL and a Mississipi DL.  No state will issue a DL without taking your old one.  This was the best opportunity they had to get this gang but they messed up.  We think that a bank statement fell through the cracks and was not forwarded to Austin.  Instead it was delivered to the Dallas apt. and left out in the open as not at this address and was picked up by this thief.  Staci is still afraid to write checks except to pay bills through the mail.  In total these people got away with over $20,000.00 worth of merchandise.  Never caught.
In our family we now shredd every piece of mail that comes into our house.  We throw nothing away in one piece.

At least now the law recognizes the person whose ID is stolen as the victim.  Staci could not even fill out a police report.  All she could do was go back to Dallas everytime a check surfaced and get the bank to fill out a form to be sent to the merchant to inform them that Staci was not the person that wrote the check or opened the account etc.  It was a nightmare.

I hope things go well for you.  I know how frustrated you must b.
