Irritated Stomach Pouch - NEED Suggestions

OK - So here's a quick recap:

Haven't been feeling well since Saturday so today I went to see my family doctor.  Turns out I have a cold.  He told me it was okay to take a Claratin-D to help with congestion.  So.....today after lunch I took one.

At first I though I had had my lunch too fast.  Three hours later I still has a BAD stomach ache.  I called my WLS doctor's office to ask someone if they had any idea what might be going on.  They think the Claratin might have upset/irritated my pouch.  -- I really hope they're right.

Has this happened to anybody else out there?  If so, what did you do?  Anybody have any tips or suggestions.

Suffering,
Lisa D. Mtz.

Lisa,

I'm sorry you have a tummy ache.  I recommend some warm tea.  It always seems to soothe my tummy.  Also simple food like boiled potatoes, chicken noodle soup, or anything else soft and not spicy that you like to eat. There is a reason they call it comfort food.

I took Claritin for about 18 months after surgery without any problems, but it was not Claritin-D.  For congestion I use Mucinex.  Decongestants can make your pouch grouchy.

Good luck.  I hope you feel better soon.

Do you take any OTC antacids? If not, it might be worth a couple of days of just taking one 20MG OTC Famotidine to see if it will calm down.
Daily antacids are a normal part of my Surgeon's post-op regimen, and definitely help.

Feel better soon!

Hi George,

Can you please describe what your discomfort was like?  My pain radiated around my belly button area.  It was pretty intense, and lasted for hours.  Made me squirm a little.

This morning I'm feeling much better, but I'm scared to eat or drink anything.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, Ladies.  I'm feeling a bit better this morning, but it was a rough night.  I had some bad pain till about 4am.  Could not sleep at all because of the discomfort.  -- Its early and my pain is not anywhere as bad as it was yesterday.  My stomach is sore and I'm scared to eat or drink anything, cause I DO NOT want to feel that "hurt" again.

My husband seems to think I ate something that was bad.  I'm starting to think that maybe he was right.  Who knows???

Anyhow, THANK YOU SO MUCH, for the great suggestions.
