Drs office is on my last nerve!

 Get it in writing.  Request a letter from the doctors office stating that they will accecpt whatever the insurance pays as full payment and that you will not be responsible for any balance.  If his office is telling you not to worry they should be willing to put it in writing.  Does BCBS cover the surgery out of network?  Often doctor offices will take patients out of network and settle for what the plan pays.  I have had this happen a couple of times.   You are correct that you have to be your own advocate.

I didn't think about this...thanks. Yes, BCBS does cover the surgery by an out of network Dr. I just pay twice as much...60/40 compared to 80/20. None of my phone calls have been returned so we'll see what happens when I show up on Monday!
