Hello Fellow Texans,

I currently live in Amarillo, and I'm having lap-band surgery soon in Dallas.  I was just wondering if anyone knows of a lap-band support group in Amarillo.  I think all of the doctors recomend attending a support group meeting regularily, but since I'm not being banded here, I don't know if there is a group here or not.  Thanks in advance!

Don't know about anything in Amarillo but wanted to say Hi and welcome to the TMB and to bandster life soon!

Who's doing your band?  Where?  When?

Feel free to ask questions and one or more of us on the board will come up with answers!  Post often and keep us up to date on your journey!!

 Hi Joan,

Welcome to the TMB and for getting a WLS to aid you down the road to a healthier lifestyle.   You might want to go to the groups in the dark blue right below the OH logo and see if there are in Obesity Help groups in your area.   I am a OH Support Group Coach Leader and there are lots of our groups in the DFW area.   I bet there are also some in Amarillo.   Good luck with your band and finding that perfect support group for you.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Thanks for the responses ladies!  I will definitely check out the group tab at the top of the page.  I had never noticed what all of the tabs said before.

I am having my surgery in Denton by Dr. David Provost.  He used to practice at UT Southwestern in Dallas, but he wanted to be closer to home, so he moved into a private practice in Denton.  The issue I'm having right now is I'm a Medicare patient, and Medicare requires the surgery be done at a Center of Excellence.  Presby in Denton has applied for the certification, but they haven't gotten it yet.  I'm getting very frustrated, because I initially started on this journey back in 2006!  Dr. Provost was very nice and offered to send me to another surgeon where I could get the surgery done faster, but I figure I've waited this long, it won't hurt to wait a bit longer.  However, I'm starting to get stressed out about it, so I may be changing my mind in the near future if they don't get their certification soon.

Hi Paul,

I know Dr. Provost's office is doing everything they can to help Presby in Denton get their center of excellence certification.  I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with his practice. I've been told by many people in the medical field that he is the best there is.  Since I'm a nurse, that's very important to me.  I went to the seminar Dec. 1, 2006, and then saw him in Jan 2007.  I don't know if you are the same Paul of not, but I met a Paul while I was living in the DFW area that went to a support group meeting the same night my daughter and I went to the seminar.  We went to dinner after the meeting and had a great time.

I've noticed the Attitudinal Healing on their website, and have purchased the book Teach only Love.  I figured I can learn about it by reading the book since I can't be there in person for the group meetings.  I will definitely call and talk to the people in his office about starting a group here in Amarillo.  I know there used to be one here, but the doctor left town, so I guess it just stopped when that happened  Thanks so much for the information.

Yes we went to Pappadeaux after the meeting.  It's good to know you are still doing well after 2.5 years.  I haven't started reading the book yet, but I thought I would use it since Dr. Provosts' office was using it in their meetings.  If I don't get to have my surgery soon, I'm gonna go nuts!  I think I've waited long enough.

I live in Amarillo and know of several people who have had surgery or lap-band. I do not know of any group established but am willing to get into one/start organizing with some help.  Email me at [email protected] so we can discuss this.  I DEFINITELY need support.  I am 4 years out and struggling right now.  Good luck with your surgery.  Remember... the date it is finally done is the RIGHT day for you.  Deays have their reasons!!
