We were at a meeting for the teens mission trip this summer -REALLY neat program called taking the city - 9 youth groups and they go into small town and do all kinds of things - from heavy construction (what my kiddo wanted and got) to help with food pantrys, do VBS "in a box" (the kids come in and do it all - decorations, planning, teaching and cleaning up) tutor at the local school/library, help at the YMCA, clear weedy lots, help paint houses, spent time at the nursing home - just all kinds of things
oh anyway we were there when the storm**** here bad - spent some time in the bathrom with everyone - one guy brought his motercycle into the building - kinda glad we were there since the big tree by our front door is about half in the parking lot, my garden in tubs by the front door - less than 10 ft from the tree was perfectly fine
ok time to get off here - hope everyone has a good day - Liz SLEEP, drink water and get better soonest
hugs and prayers

We Can Do Hard Things
I had the opportunity to do a mission trip when I was 17 years old. It was similar to the one you describe. In the mornings, we ran a VBS for inner city kids in El Paso and, in the afternoons, we painted the interior of their church. We were there 2 weeks. It was truly one of the most formative things I ever did. It allowed me to see that everyone didn't live the privileged life that we did (even though we were far from wealthy). It gave me a perspective on the world that truly change me as a person.
Teens who wanted to take the trip had the earn it by working for church members. We were "auctioned" off to do housework and yard work for church members who then paid our trip fees. In El Paso, we slept in bedrolls in the church's Sunday School Classrooms and Fellowship Hall. Each of us also had to take a shift in the kitchen helping to prepare our food and clean up afterward. It was so much fun. You will never regret the sacrifices you have to make to allow your teens to take a trip like this.
BTW, y'all could send some of that rain down south. We are high and dry and really need the rain.
