Back from 6/1 surgery..
Hi,
I had my RNY on 6/1 and now, 11 days later I'm feeling like myself again.
I had my surgery in San Antonio, at Innova Hospital. My 3 day stay turned to 4 days due to an ileus, but once that got moving, so did I, and was released.
I spent the weekend resting, dealing with a swollen arm due to a bad IV, but other than that it's been ok.
I've had a few "oh God what have I done?", moments, but for the most part, I do not regret it at all. I'm still not really hungry per se, although I think my stomach is rumbling, all the liquids and nothing solid is a big change!
I'll be doing clear liquids for another week, I see my Dr. on the 18th for my post op instructions.
My husband says he can see a difference already, I know I can, my ankle's are smaller, and my shoes are looser. Interesting.
My mom and oldest son are gone this weekend, so I'll be interested to see what she says when they get home on Saturday.
Thanks for all the well wishes, this really is the best thing I've done for myself. When I start feeling woe is me, and dreaming about eating, I just tell myself that food will come back into my life soon enough. I can do this. I have no choice now, right??

Hi Monica,
It's good to see you posting. I'm glad you are doing so well. When Patrick told me you were back to work already, I almost fell over. I was not doing nearly so well as you at this point. Maybe it's the age difference. I'm old you know!
Just don't overdo it. Remember that you are recovering from major abdominal surgery - even if you do feel good.

Vicki,
Yes, I'm back at work. I was just sitting at home staring at the walls, and I thought being at work would help the days go faster. Granted, I've had a few minutes where I wish I was home, but it's been ok.
I'm really looking forward to gettnig weighed next week, and getting the clearance to eat some softer foods. Broth is getting very old!
My incisions are doing well, the dermabond came off of the one on the far left, and it's healing, but it's taking it's sweet time!
James and I sat and actually watched one of the discovery health shows on people having wls last night.. the first one was about a woman named Jackie who was over 600#. She did so well after surgery, lost 200+# in like 7 months, and fought through infections and other issues but was doing well. Then we watched Big Medicine and saw one of their patients who hadn't walked in 7 years get in a pool. It made me reallllly grateful for the fact that I am as "healthy" as I am. I can walk, drive, leave home, all on my own steam.
I'm so glad I did this!
Have a good weekend!!

Hi Monica,
I had WLS on 6/3 at NE Baptist and we have the same doctor. I am back to work as well and feeling fine. I met with Ann the Nutritionist on Monday and she said one more week of liquids then soft foods. I am struggling to get in the protein but I am coming close and drinking plenty of water.
My problem is that I weigh myself daily and it seems like I lost all my 15lbs in the first 5 days after WLS and for the past week I have stayed the same. I am not losing anymore weight and I know that the results are different for each one of us but I am curious to know what people averaged at two weeks after WLS. A man at my appointment lost 30 lbs.
What is your weight loss to date?
