the only people that get nakey are old men with balls that hang down to their knees.

OMG, brought back memories of going to a NUDE beach on the Jersey shores years ago!!  And to make it worse all the little old men had button-up shirts on but no bottoms!!

Welcome to TX, you wanted a hot summer.. Well Honey you are gonna get one!!!!  I work in Austin and live in New Braunfels, home of Schlitterbahn, Canyon Lake and tubing the Comal and Guadalupe rivers..  The Rot Rally starts in Austin on Thurs., there will be a lot of different bikes and people around the Austin area for the rest of the week.  The people watching is always good at this time in South TX.  If you ever make it down south towards New Braunfels (about 50 miles south of Austin) you have to stop in Gruene, TX and go to the Gristmill to eat it sits over the Guadalupe and the food is good too.  Then you can hang out and go the Gruene Hall for some live music, they filmed the dance scene from the movie Michael with John Travolta there.  Plus Gruene Hall has had just about every singer/band there.  Saturdays are great in Gruene, you walk around the shops and can stop at the Grapevine winery for some free samples and great TX grown wine..

OK I am done talking my town now!! I can't help it I just love liven there....

OH and don't forget Six Flags in San Antonio and Sea World too.

Enjoy TX and check back with us when it is 110 in the shade in Aug and see how much you are missing the 70's & 80's... lol JK

Welcome to Texas.  Is cliff diving peculiar to Texans?  Honestly, I've never thought of this as an unusual activity.  We started jumping and diving off of cliffs into the Frio River when we were 12 years old at church camp.  It never occurred to me that everyone doesn't do it.  LOL.

I think it must be related to drinking somehow ..

Glad to hear you're settled in with the natives at long last, Cookieman .        Are you coming up for the Vitalady dinner next Friday, or for the OH event in September?

(Georgie, you're not a native Texan?        I figured you were from one of those "old generation" Texas families for some reason    ...  )

As an almost native Austinite, I would NOT recommend you allow your son to cliff dive this summer. The lake levels are VERY low due to the drought and there are many unexpected rock croppings all around (both lake and swimming holes such as Hamilton Pool.) I know several young men who are now paralyzed from cliff diving.
I personally refuse to eat at Chick Fillet due to the owners political views on a variety of subjects, including religion and abortion.
If you have not yet tried the Salt Lick in Driftwood - you need to. It is BYOB and cash/check only. Live music on Friday and Saturday. The barbeque there is the best (I think in the area.)
Hamilton Pool in Bee Caves is wonderful. Bit of a hike down (and up) to it, but it is a great swimming hole.
Krauses Springs - which is about 4 miles from my house - is another great swimming place. Natural spring water and lots of trees.
Fredericksburg Trade Days - which are the 3rd weekend of every month are great. Kind of a combination of garage sale, antique sale, and craft sale. With live country music.
We hit Schillterbahn once a year - now that our children are "grown" - they are not as eager to go. But it is fun. (Take your own picnic lunch as the food there sucks and is ridiculously expensive.)
I personally do NOT like the Oasis except for the sunsets. The food there is medicore and reminds me of movie theatre food.
