Does anyone have the MASTER LIST... for WLS ?? I was looking down the MASTER LIST Isle at Wal*Mart but couldn't find it. I wasn't able to find the one for Parenting either... Oh well. LoL But for real now... Does anyone have a few things they would like to add on my:
"What to do & have before surgery list"

I'm a person who likes to have all my ducks in a row...

Examples: Clothing to pack, Foods after surgery, Helpful everyday tools they used...

Please help if you can... THANKS!!

Beth, don't spend allot of money on foods/liquids/protein shakes.  You can order protein samples at several places www.bariatriceating.com, www.vitalady.com, www.unjury.com.  Your taste might change and just because you liked it before surgery you may not be able to stand it after.

Ok a couple of things for the hospital:

bathroom stuff (toothbrush, paste, brush, deodorant)
something comfortable to wear home (I had to be at the hospital at 6 am so what I wore there I wore home)
button up robe (I used mine but some get 2 hospital gowns to hide your booty when walking
slippers with a grip......slide ons
CHAP STICK - the most used item I brought
Pillow - for ride home

For Home:

broth - I used the packets from Ramon noodles I liked the taste better and it's cheap I threw the noodles away
S/F popcicles
S/F jello
Decaf coffee - if you drink it
Water - I do better with bottled water and it was easier to know how much I drank
Crystal Light packets --- this is SWEET after surgery, you might need to dilute it

My ideas...

"weight loss surgery for dummies"-great book for all wls surgeries
breath strips, I like cinnamon
a pllow to hug on the ride home from hospital
easy on & off clothes for hospital, slip on shoes
do not stock up on foods for after surgery, your taste will change--have afew things especially soup stocks,sf popsicles, cream of wheat, maybe some sf jello and sf puds
Make sure you have all your meds and vits at home for when you get there

Hi Bethany,

I'm in CC too.  I see you're using Dr. Cavazos, so I assume you'll be having surgery in San Antonio.  Honestly, all I needed in the hospital was toiletry items like toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, etc.  I also took my own soap because I don't like antibacterial soaps.  I also recommend that you take your own pillow(s).  You'll need a couple on the ride home.  I also wished I had had a towel with me for the ride home because I was still having some draining.

I also found that the pants and t-shirt I wore to the hospital would not work for the ride home.  My daughter had to go out and buy me a house dress that was big and baggy.  I could not stand anything around my tummy for a while.

Once you get home, it's pretty much the same thing everyone else said - crystal lite, sf Popsicles, sf jello, broth, etc.

Let me know if you need anything once you get back.  Right now I'm not working and I live in the Calallen area.  I'd be happy to help any way I can.

Vicki

Bethany,
I will just tell you some more or what everyone else said.  The pillows are heaven sent on the way home and at the hospital.  So are the bigger clothes, I went home so bloated it was really sad...  I weighed more than when I went in from all the gas they fill you with..   I also took a book, some coloring books and an ipod so that I could listen to my kind of music and relax a little.

Good luck, you will do great!

I had surgery last week and all I took to the hospital was a change of clothes, book (didn't read it), mp3 player, a pillow and that was it...i took stuff for the shower but to be honest i wasn't feeling up to the shower stuff and decided to take one when i got home. When I got home i had SF everything and plenty of water on hand. I also bought individual packets of things to make things a lot easier. You might want to get some adult liquid tylenol...it helped with the pain and it didn't make me dump like the pain meds.

Good luck!!!

2 oz dixie cups or shot glasses so u canpour a resonable (1 oz) serving n not be overwhelmed
tiny bowl/plates - a kids tea set works
I still 3 1/2 yrs out use my pampered cheif prep bowls - there are galss n hold 1 cup filled to the max n have mesurements on them

a journal or note book even the white board- something to record water protien, pain meds (if u need them) n to note the times u walked - u need to walk at lwast a little every hour

night before surgery TAKE ALL YOUR MESUREMENTS!!!
these will help in your journey - I was 7 months pg on my 2nd surgerversyer date - did my mesurements n was over a FOOT smaller at the waist n hips
Home is where the army allows me to live with my husband

I know what I need to do - I have to choose to take care of me or I choose to fail

Measurements and pre-op pictures are a must.  Then keep the clothes you wore for your pre-op pics so you can compare as you start to lose weight.  (then a lot later you can have a cool pic like mine with the shorts).  Also start reading people's profiles.  You will garner lots of good experience and advise from them.
