A lot of the same here Danni...I can do cheeses just fine, milk, eehhh, not so much so.  Sometimes it is ok by itself but most of the time not.  If I cook with it, then it's fine, just by itself is where it becomes a problem.  I couldn't tolerate it AT ALL right after surgery though.  I'm a tea person so don't have to put it in anything like coffee and thankfully don't have to use it often, but I'm with you, plain milk does not make the belly happy!

The only dairy I can do is cheese. I cannot do milk - warm or cold, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc.

I don't know all of the science behind it, but there must be a change in either the proteins or how the lactose molecules bond that makes the difference for you. Alton Brown (Good Eats on Food Network) always has the scientific explanations of what happens when you cook a food. You could try doing a search on foodtv.com to see if he's done a show on milk before?

Danni,

I can eat cottage cheese, yogurt and cheese but have to use lactaid milk. Even cream soups make my stomach hurt.

Your loved!

Somedays I'm good with milk, other days not so much - not dumping, but it does upset my digestive tract on the not so good days.  I have no problem with other dairy products though.

Over time I've become lactose intolerant!  Right after surgery I could handle milk in the early part of the day but would dump and become gassy if I consumed it in the afternoon/evening.  Now, cannot handle any dairy products at all.  They leave me double over in pain that lasts hours!!  It was unbearable and I have a pretty high pain tolerance.  I've had to completely give up milk, yogurt and cheeses.  I'm comnpletely on NSA soy products.

I can cook with milk in small quantities and do fine (mashed potatoes) but I can't drink plain milk or eat cereal with milk.  I don't dump on anything per se but it does make me queasy and makes my tummy hurt a little so I just avoid it.
