Do you take an acid blocker?

I was wondering how many people take an acid blocker such as Prilosec to prevent ulcers?  I've never had a problem but have been taking one since I had surgery.  Just curious if most docs prescribe one or just mine.

I just started taking Nexium and Carafate in April after my first EGD.....carafate ran out and I asked for more after the EGD in early May.  Don't know if the Nexium really helps but the Carafate does!

I take one when I take any NSAIDS.  I've had to do a couple of rounds of either Celebrex, or other NSAIDs since surgery and my doc told me to take an acid blocker with them.  Other than that he doesn't prescribe one as a rule for everyone.

I take Protonix daily, and have since surgery.  Dr. Kim prescribes acid blockers for his patients.

Previcaid 2x a day since I had my ulcer 3 weeks after my origional surgery. I got the ulcer because I forgot about taking my acid reducer after surgery. Have tried to get off it a couple of times but it was no go!

Steph, I was only one the Prilosec for 6 months after having my surgery with Dr. Barker. He stopped it after that. At my one year, I asked him why I wasn't on it and he said he usually only continued it for people who had issues prior to surgery with GERD, acid reflux or something...

That is what I got... Because I was worried that I was suppose to be on one, and wasn't.

I take Nexium and occasionally Zantac, but it's for reflux.

I was told I'll have to take one for the rest of my life. I take Aciphex-when I was having all that stomach in late 2007 the GI doc changed from Nexium to Aciphex.

My surgeon usually requires we take Prilosec for like the first 3-4 months out, until everything has healed up inside ...
