Post-Op's Can you have TOO much Splenda?
Can you consume TOO much splenda post op on a given day?
For instances.... I have just recently started drinking coffee since my surgery say in the past 2 months. I don't drink it every day until the past week. However, I drink about 3 cups and mix each cup with about 6-8 splenda packets each... Total splenda packets through the entire day is about 20-24. However, that is the ONLY 'sugar' that I get that is artifical and I don't eat sweets.... The rest of my diet is 'dairy, low fat, no carbs other than veggies and low GI fruits, and protein, protein bars/shake..."
I am wondering if I should completely cut this out of my diet as well.. Maybe that is why I haven't been losing, but maintaining... Um, thoughts....I didn't consider "splenda" a big deal, but maybe it is....
Just trying to get people's opinion on it... I thought splenda equal no harm.
I've done research, but would love to hear what others think.
What's your take?

That does sound like a lot of Splenda. Like a little coffee with your Splenda? LOL ...I have heard "related to low-carb" that any artificial sweetener can hinder weight loss but I don't know personally. I do know that if I have too much Splenda, I have had cramps before...Be interesting to find out what other opinions are on the matter.
You could try switching to Stevia for a couple of weeks and see if you can tell a difference. That is a lot of Splenda! I use the brand called sweet leaf in my coffee unless I am adding protein and it comes with its own sweetener. Stevia is an herb and some of the brands I tried have a slight bitter aftertaste - the sweet leaf doesn't to me. You can find it at health food stores or grocery stores with a good health food section.
I've had this same question. I have asked the NUT and the bariatric coordinator at Doctor's hospital and neither really knew the answer to it. I use about 7-8 packets in a Route 44 ice tea. I drink alot of crystal light too which has artificial sweetner. I don't like anything but splenda either to me the pink and blue packets make things taste bitter. I do notice though that when I have had too much it feels like I am getting a UTI. I cut back and the feeling goes away so I am just guessing they are related.
I hope one of the nurses on here has an answer for both of us.

Good question and here is my opinion.
I use splenda now. I used to use the pink ones (cant think of their name) BUT, the most I will use of splenda is 2 packets. I really don't drink tea during the day or night for that matter and I have a small coffee every other morning. BUT, even if its NOT "sweet" with the 2 packets, that is all I use. Sweets/Sugars are MY trigger food. So, I DEF limit myself with it. PLUS, I still believe in the whole "sweetners cause cancer and crap" so that helps me limit my use too.
IMO, it sounds like u use a lot of it for ur coffees and such. Try changing things up with ur morning/day drinks and see if that doesnt jump start ur weightloss. Let us know how it goes for you. Good Luck!
Take care,
Monica

U tell me that I sin,
U say Im bound for hell,
So once ur judgment condemns U,
I SHALL SEE U THERE.
I'd rather be an OPEN sinner
than a FALSE saint...
