I've noticed that they are discontinuing ALOT of things......kinda like downsizing what they carry in the way of any products / inventory so to speak............but I too am an avid shopper since I HATE KROGERS.........TOM THUMB.....prices to me there are too high.......kinda like Albertson....I started shopping at Wallyworld supermarkets before moving to Dallas in 10-02....and I still shop there.......I can get everything I need at 1-stop !!  lol

  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I do shop WM but not as much as Target (they are closer).

I have noticed WM going up on prices or not caring stuff like they use to.  I have found in more than one case Target being cheaper but there are somethings I have to buy at WM.

I would shop around and see what you can find................

p.s.  I do agree that some WM carry different things, I find this with alot of stores.  I would check different WMs and see if you find what you are looking for.

Actually, I find it more the reverse where I live.   I frequently find a name brand product I like, and then I notice they never have it anymore... only the generic brand.   As for the profit margin, I would not say that would be the motivation if it really is happening for you like you say it is.  Since it is a generic product, made and packaged by Walmart..... They have more of a say on how much they will buy the item for.  They know how much it costs them to make... and how much it will cost to buy the name brand product.   I am thouroughly convinced that the name brands that I like that dissappear from the shelves refuse to sell their product to Walmart for the price that they demand to maintain a particular profit margin, so Walmart stopped selling their products.  I mean I know they are still being made because other stores sell these items still.

Walmart is a well oiled machine when it comes to squeezing more profit out of anything.  They can pinch a penny so hard that Lincoln cries.  My guess is that the "great value" brand of the product, may not have sold well and they just discontinued making it.

I may be wrong but that is the way I see it.

Paul, I actually noticed the opposite too.  Recently I went specifically for 2 different name brand items and they only had their store brand.  That really made me mad.  I like the option of either the national brand or the store brand.  I have also noticed a WHOLE lot of their unit pricing charges MORE for the larger size or quantity.  for example: The other day it was cheaper to buy the medium size box of cereal vs the large size box.  (20.2 cents an ounce vs 24 cents).  So now we have to watch that too.

I have noticed that too. I noticed it on pizza rolls and toilet paper (sometimes the T.P, but always the pizza rolls).

I have no choice than to use Walmart where I live.  The thing that drives me CRAZY about Walmart is they never have the same thing twice.  I have certain foods that I need to survive.  The next week they are gone.  This is CRAZY....sometimes they don't come back for months if at all.

I think we will be seeing this more and more in EVERY part of our American life. People say "Who cares if this place goes out of business we had too many of these shops around here anyway. Prime example of us losing choices. General Motors (Government Motors now) Some people thing big deal if another car manufacturer went out of business. Guess what if we have less choices of dealerships to go to, do you think that one dealership left is not going to take into account that you have less options now on where you can go to get your car fixed? Do you think they are going to go the extra mile now to give you good customer service or give you the best deal? They know you are all they have left. It effects us all. Tell my dad whom worked at the Arlington General Motors plant for 34 years it is not big deal they filed bankruptcy. He worked in that hot metal building all those years to be told "sorry mister we have gone belly up, you are not going to get that retirement check anymore, we don't care that you are 60 yrs old and need to go compete with hundreds of younger people for that $7.00 hour job."
It is the same thing with brand name groceries and not giving us choices. The people higher up have forced us into choosing one thing over the other in one way or another. None of this may be effecting you right now, but, down the road it will.

Smile, it increases your face value.

It's kinda scary to learn that Wal-Mart now employs over 1,000,000 Americans.    (talk about America being dependent on GM!  )  ..

I don't know how many Americans are in the workforce, but I bet that's close to 1 in every 100 or so who are "owned" by WM.

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

We are all screwed when the govt. gets into running companies. Can anyone say socialism? Buckle up for a RUFF ASS RIDE! Anyway, enough of that we are not supposed to talk politics on here.

On a side note, there was an economist on the news talking about how we are fixing to enter, and this is what he called it, The Greatest Depression.

I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.

I have found it to be the manufacturers stop making as much product to reduce production costs, making only their "brand" items.  This leaves many stores, not just WM left without store brands or fewer options of store brands.

Everyone is feeling it right now.  Not just the consumer.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009
OH Mini-Challenge Goal for New Year's Day is 170 pounds. 11 pounds to go!
