Hi Paul,

I say it with a passion...I do not like Wal-Mart!  Every opportunity I get I make them comp other competitor's ads.  I also shop for everything that I can at the Dollar General Store.  Here in my area, they have quite a few brand name items that are much lower that the Wal-Mart price.  Most people probably would not think so but it is true.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

We have few choices of where to shop in Azle, so I am an avid shopper.

I have noticed the prices rising.  Checked out Paper Towels lately???  OMG.

Brookshire's has a line of products I love.  They are called Top Care.  I go there and buy a lot of their off brand merch.  I have not found any that I would not buy again.

Without explaining further.... And, I don't want to be bashed for this please....   Wal-Mart is like many other competitors out there, trying to remain profitable.   Remember, they don't make the products, but rather re-sell them from companies that do manufacture them.  So, don't hate the player, get angry at the manufacturers...   When they are raising prices it in direct response to what they are being charged by the companies for the merchandise.  As the costs of manufacturing rise, labor, raw ingredients, shipping, fuel, etc...  WM has no other choice but to also raise their prices.

As for store brands, I can tell you there is a huge push in the consumer goods industry to expand store brands allowing the consumers more opportunities to purchase at a lower price.  But, like all things, this takes time to accomplish.

For me, I'm an avid WM shopper and will continue to spend money there.  But rather than complain at them for prices, I research as to why the price are high.  Also, when they discontinue a brand or size of product I like, I ask for the department, store or assistant store manager and tell them why this is a problem for me.  It's been my experience that I can get the product back in store by simply asking for it....

So, good luck, but I'll continue to spend my money there as it goes further for my family.

since susan works a ways from the house have her check other wms - not sure where the lines are but different wm can get different things from the warehouse b/c they are served from diferent warehouses

I will always shop at walmart - I have worked for them in the past (more than once) and was treated well and in one instance way way beyond well

that said I do comp shop a LOT but figure since they get the majoirty of my shopping on other things too it is ok LOL

I am not sure on the discontinued things - I do know that somethings can be brought back - ask for an ast manager or  store manager or call 1800 wal mart and ask - all of these things can make a differnce

One possible reason why the 'store brand' disappeared suddenly is the manufacturer may be changing it, or changing their co-packer.   Usually a store brand, also known as private label is not sold through another retailer.  For example, Kroger has "Private Selections" as their store brand and you can't find that anywhere else.  Perhaps I misunderstood what you are referring to as a 'store brand'??

It's all about supply and demand. Ask the manager if they can get the product back in the store or check at another WM. I'm a wm shopper and believe me i make my penny stretch as far as it can. Not only is wm better try going to a regular grocery store it's awful how expensive things are there
