What do you consider a liquid diet?

Other then the obvious, no meat Etc.

does this include soup with any substance or only clear broths?

Thanks

Clear liquids are just that - any liquid you can see through.

Full liquids include soup, yogurt, etc. including milk products.

So, it depends - is it a clear liquid diet or a full liquid diet?

agree with lynne...
clear liquids are just that.. clear broths you can see thru.

full liquids  - my surgeon defined that as anything you can get thru a straw. Soups, thinned mashed potatoes, but mostly soups

Stephanie, I know you're preparing and getting ready.  Kudos to you for taking it seriously.  However, I noticed you're using Dr. Kim and he's really good about giving his patients very specific plans to follow.  Including the liquid diet.  I'm sure you'll get this info on your pre-op visit.

He may put you on a pre-op liquid diet which will consist of protein shakes and other liquids (broth, juice, etc...).  And then again after surgery I be;ieve he does a progressive liquid diet where the first week it's clear, the second week its full liquids, then puree,, then soft, and finally regular foods.  Hang in there and one of his WLS patients will pipe in.  I know Vivian Prouty is a patient of his.  She can probably give you more details about what to really expect.

Every surgeon is different and has different pre-op diet requirements.  Mine was 2 weeks of protein shakes only, although I supplemented with clear liquids to get me through - SF jello and SF popsicles mainly.   Post-op was a very specific progression from clear liquids to full liquids, to mushy to regular foods.  Each category had listed what i could have so it was easy - I just looked up the foods and that is what I ate.

Good luck with your revision!

Thank you all so much for the replies - I really appreciate the information.

I had all the fluid taken out of my band so Dr Kim just  said try and do liquids so that any swelling might go down. He didn't give me specifics. I did it for a week then over the weekend  I ate, but didn't over-eat , had small amounts. Then today went ahead started back on liquids because on the 9th I am going to have the Endoscopy done. The liquids were because my band had slipped. I no longer feel the pressure in my chest that I had when I went to see him last week. Yeah!

Everyone is so helpful - thanks again
