Good afternoon Train Riders!!  I missed the morning train by a few minutes.  I've got a training call to sit in on later this afternoon, unfortunately I'm afraid it's going to be tedious rather than interesting.

I had a great evening yesterday.  After work I hung out with Danni, Jenny R and assorted kids.  We took them to a playground and let them run wild for a while.  Perfect weather, and wonderful friends, who could ask for more?

Jeff had a surprise interview yesterday.  One of the customers of his current employer would like to hire him (maybe), and has been asking his boss for a month now if they can interview him.  It finally came together yesterday, so we'll see what happens.  It's a little less base money with a bonus structure based on project completion, and a tad bit farther away, but I think it's something that he's more interested in.  We'll see what happens, I'm glad he's made a good enough impression that they want to steal him away.

I tried out a natural remedy for inflammation yesterday and am hopeful that it will work.  I did some reading after finding out that Celebrex won't be an option for me, and found some research about ginger.  Turns out it's a natural anti-inflammatory and a couple of sites recommended drinking fresh grated ginger tea.  So, I made up a cup last night before bed.  This morning when I woke up my hands weren't stiff, my hips didn't hurt and my knees weren't achy.  I could actually take my ring off my finger too, which is almost always impossible in the am.  I'm hoping it wasn't just a fluke, so I'm going to do a couple of cups a day for a while and see if it continues to work.  Have my fingers crossed!

I didn't realize you had problems with inflammation.  Is it related to arthritis?

Yep sure is.  I definitely have osteoarthritis in some joints, and I strongly suspect I have RA also.  My mother and grandmother both had/have severe cases and I've got several of the symptoms, but have never tested positive for rheumatoid factor.

I have osteo, and it is interesting that you suspect RA.  I told my co-workers last week, I suspected RA in my hands and I am scared to death.  Going to doc in July to ask some very tough questions.

I had one doc years ago that kind of "diagnosed" me with RA.  Even though I didn't have rheumatoid factor, my symptoms were classic and he said that 7 out of 10 docs would say I have it.  I took Celebrex for it for a while, felt better, quit taking it and really forgot about it for several years.

Lately (last 1-2 years) it's stuck around consistently enough that I'm pretty sure I'll be dealing with it long term.  I haven't looked into a Rheumatologist yet because I really don't want to go through the meds that my Mom has dealt with, and to be honest at this point its annoying but not debilitating so I'm just trying to deal on my own.

Hmmm...I'll have to check out this tea then.  Can you post a link to the sight where you found the info, please?  My left shouldrer, wrist and finger hurts on occasion.  I take Mobic with protonix when it's bad but I avoid it as much as I can since it can cause ulcers.  A nice, natural remedy would be much better.  Thanks!

Sure thing!  Here is a link with a better recipe than I did last night.  I ended up with tiny chunks of ginger in my tea last night, so I've poked around to find a better method.

* Ginger: This herb has long been used in India to treat inflammation and pain. In her book, Herbs for Health and Healing, Kathi Keville tells us, "When Indian researchers investigated their culture's ancient claims for ginger, they discovered that it did indeed relieve pain." She cites a 1992 study in which ginger was given to people who suffered from muscle pain which resulted in "at least some improvement" for all of the participants; in the same study, 75 percent of the participants who had reported experiencing rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis said that the ginger treatment resulted in "substantial relief." In addition, no adverse side effects were reported, even among participants who took ginger for more than two years.
