after reading the postings of late... I had better up it..

iron was low too... all the others were in range... but on the low side..

I got a B12 shot right after the labs... so maybe I should do that monthly

The doc said she knew my calcium would be bad... since I don't take extra calcium/D other than my multi... but they were in range   8.9  - range was 8.5 - 10.5.. little on the low side..
I have calcium/D lozengers... so I will start taking them again... watching the time clock... that is why I quit taking them... I was originally taking them too close to the iron supplement.

little more effort on my part is required...
thanks for the teachings.

OMG, you better get a B-12 shot monthy AND take extra daily.  That is dangerously low.  For Calcium I use Citracal petites, for me they're easy to swallow.  I hate the taste of the lozenges so I am more compliant with just swallowing pills.  I so glad you got tested and have a plan of action.  Set your cell phone alarm if you need a reminder to stop and take your pills.

YES you need a b12 shot EVERY month - and I would make fast tracks to wally world or someplace similar and get B12 subliquals and start taking them also!! lack of B12 causes perm brain damage!! please please do this asap

I am sure others will know what is best for other vits but I know that one

Vicki, please do more than B-12 once a month, every week initially and/or lots of sublingual a day.  This is dangerously low, don't mess with it.

On the calcium, what was your D 25 hydroxy and PTH, did your doc run these, because although your calcium may be ok if your D is low and your PTH is high you could very well be leaching calcium from your bones.

D25 = 37
PTH = 17

how does it look?  I never heard from the actual dr... a clerk read from my report.  The PA that I saw on the day of my appt said I could come by and get once a month shot.  She did not have the results yet when she made that offer.  It seems like I may have to check in again to see if they will approve more than once a month.

thanks for the help

What is the range of your PTH on the lab report?  That seems low to me which could indicate hypoparathyroidism.  Don't freak about anything, as you know the internet has so much information that doesn't necessarily apply.  I would discuss with your surgeon just for safety.  See if the attached describes any symptoms you might be experiencing.  I'm shooting to keep my PTH between 20-40, currently it's at 28.

Your vitamin D, although probably in your lab range is also low for us.  I suggest you get Vitamin D3 in dry form and start supplementing.  I order mine from Vitalady because I can get higher doses, but you can get D in dry from at GNC, Walmart and other places.  The Vitamin D Counsel http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ gives you allot information on the affects of Vitamin D and how prevalent deficiencies  have become in not just WLS patients but throughtout the world.  My latest info and understanding is the labs will be increasing the ranges (hopefully sooner rather than later".  My Vit D 25 hydroxy is at 64, it dropped from 86 a year ago.  My goal is to get it back above 80.

thank you for your reply... I am going to call the surgeon to request a B12 RX and how often I should have an injection/doseage.  I work for a doctor so our nurse could make sure it hits the muscle....

have a great day

Vicki, Mine too last month was 180 and I am taking b-12 injections once a week and BComplex Drops each day~ I go back to the doctor this friday for my labs, and I can say they should be up....
You really need to do something more than just once a month, call your doctor back and see if you can have the injections weekly, as well as a sublingual B-12.....

wishing you all the best..and get those numbers UP!!!

vicki,

if you can, get a script from your doctor for b-12 vials.  then head to CVS for some syringes (get the baby needles).  I do my shots about every 10 days and I can feel it if I forget.  Emm actually gets a cheap thrill out of filling that syringe and shooting her mom in the arm.
