Blood Work Questions

Okay with all the vitamin issues going on lately ....
I am due for my bloodwork and will be going in this week or beginning of next.  I go through my PCP as my surgeon is not covered by my insurance. I emailed Dr Garth to see what his recommendations are but just want to know what tests your surgeon does. I am sure my doc would feel better going with a "surgeons" list but with enough talking I am sure I could get him to run the "extras". So give it to me....I have been doing fairly well with my vits but I am sure could do better with my choices...
I take 2 one a day maximum multivitamins
2 prescription Ferrous SO4 325mg
and calcium sometimes(don't shoot me)-I am doing better with it- just need a convenient one to tak that isn't 5 times a day or something)
Thanks everyone....and bare with me...I am trying to be more supportive and to "pay it forward".

Edit...just FYI...I take prescription iron because of anemia...
Edit 2...guess  should add that I have 1-2  b-12 injections per month depending on how I feel

Here at the office we run what is known as an anemia profile on all WLS patients before surgery.

It is more in depth than the regular blood work.  I listed the tests below for you.

CBC with d/p

TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity)

Transferrin

Ferritin

Iron, Serum Panel

Vitamin B12/Folate, Serum Panel

If your nutrients are in line then all of these should come back within range.

July....
Call Dr.  Garth's office and ask for Jamie.  She is his nurse and is VERY easy to work with!  Let her know you want to go to your PCP for your annual bloodwork but need a list of everything.  Last time I went in September, he ran things like Zinc as well.  I know the calcium as well as Vitamin D levels and thiamine are also biggies on his list so just call her.  She probably will email you a list of all things to check.

This is what I usually have done.  This last time there are a couple we didn't run, I wasn't as worried about them and we weren't sure how good my new insurance was going to be about paying them.

I have only had my one month labs due to that I have no insurance but will be getting insurance in 3 months so I will get mine done then. I was low in my thimine at my one month labs so I have been taking B1 since then ...

I took Dana's list and highlighted the ones my doc does.  He actually does a CBC instead of just a hemoglobin.

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
