Internal Hernia Recovery

Hello all, it's been a long time since I've been on the boards.

I have a question for anyone who has had an Internal Hernia repair.  Last Tuesday, my doctor did exploratory surgery and repaired an Internal Hernia.  BLESS HIM!  I've read the other posts that described my symptoms before this repair exactly - mainly excrutiating pain - and how everyone else eventually found out it was an internal hernia.

My question is that I had the procedure last Tuesday night at midnight and I'm still experiencing some pain on and off.  I wonder if this is part of the recovery and it just takes time or what.  I'm scheduled to see my doctor on Thursday morning for follow up but I might go in on Tuesday if everyone who had had this procedure thinks the pain in abnormal.

Any help would be appreciated.

lisa,

i had an incisional hernia repair done wednesday morning... had two hernias in the incision from the rny (i had open rny). don't know what the difference in repair/invasiness/recovery time is between that and internal, but....  i still have some pain on and off, too.  most of the time it's kind of a dull ache but every once in a while it gets strong enough to take my breath away.  i think mine is pretty normal.

if yours isn't any better by tomorrow evening, i would definitely go to see your dr on tuesday.  better to find out that it is nothing than to let it go and find out it should have been taken care of!!

wishing you a speedy recovery!

hey Girl...I can help with this one..

they opened you up and stitched you..of course you are gonna have some pain..giggle

it takes time for the previous irritation to subside..and the surgery too

if you are not rolling on the floor like you are possessed..seems like you are making progress..grin

but I tell you..that internal hernia was one bad boy...if I described that pain..the way it really felt..Vivian would blush...(again)

get well soon...

I had an internal hernia repaired in October last year, and that recovery was far worse than either the RNY or any of the other abdominal surgeries I have had. Mine was emergent, and ended up being both lap and open (thanks to a bleeder). I was in pain from the intestinal manipulation for several weeks, and the incision was tender for about a month.

In other words, you sound about on target. Internal hernias suck!!!! Hope you feel better soon, and take those pain meds if you need them!

Thanks for the info!  I certainly feel better knowing that I'm on the "normal" side.  I'm tired of feeling bad, I'm ready to feel better... NOW
