I set my date for VSG on June 15 with Dr. David Kim. I am a little apprehensive, but I guess that's to be expected. His office staff didn't sugar coat anything- no pun intended. They let me know I could fail at this and how it will change my life. ugh! Yes, my eating habits must change, but I kinda like my life. God has been good to me.

Good luck, Dr. Kim is very well respected and appears to be an excellent surgeon, you'll be in good hands.  Success is at your finger tips, follow your plan and it'll surely happen.

Best wishes!

I too am getting my VSG with Dr. Kim on June 25. Yes you have to change your habits but honestly as someone who has followed these wonderful ladies and guys around as the boyfriend and now spouse of a bariatric patient I can tell you that there are no better people to help you through this group. (Trust me I had to get thier approval just to date Alissa )

I could say look at a recent post about the Dr. on GMA which shows a study from 19 years ago that showed back then it was better to get bariatric back then than to do nothing. Or better was the quote from last weeks conference where someone said after the surgury they felt they killed thier best friend because really for most of us that is what food is, but like you until I actually have my surgury what I say has no weight behind it.

Better is to remember this:

1. This is not the easy way out, it is a permenate life style change that brings with it a change to have a healthy life.

2. You will need a support group that is what we are here for. Unless they have been through WLS your friends relatives do not know what your really going through. These people are the best most caring folks I have ever known. From recipes, to vitamins, to just about everyday life you can find better answers here than almost anywhere else.

3. Live your WOW moments. You will platau as your losing the weight and inches and get discouraged. Remember what you have occomplished. I plan to be like Ramon and keep a before photo in my office and by the fridge. No matter what is going on now in your journey use the photos to remember where you came from.

I wholly recommend you try to start coming to the Sat. morning breakfest in south Fort Worth at Rise n Shine. It is held every other saturday (next is in 2 weeks as one was today.) Vivian also has one I believe the last saturday of the month in Hurst at Baileys.

FANTASTIC!

I am GLAD to hear of a surgeon who doesn't "sugar coat" things.  WLS is NOT a magic pill where all you have to do is have surgery and then you can eat anything you want and never re-gain.  IF ONLY.

Nope.  Have to take your vitamins, watch your carbs, exercise........  but it is all worth it in the long run.  I did all this BEFORE WLS and had little success, so I am thrilled to do it after WLS and see results.

Hi.....it's Vivian again.    I think that everyone gets a little nervous of the unknown.    Especially when it comes to weight loss.   No Dr. Kim's office is NOT going to lie to you at all.   They are wanting all of his patients to be huge success stories.....not failures !!!  But all the different WLS are just all "tools".    We can either work the tool properly and be very successful or we can choose to "cheat ourselves and our surgery".    We all like our lives before surgery to one extent or the other but our QUALITY of life is SO MUCH BETTER when we are thinner.....healthier......and eat better.     And yes....your life WILL change......BUT it will be so much better than before.    I have NEVER regreated on second of having my RNY and I know that you will feel the same about your VSG when the weight starts coming off.    I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that God will give you peace in this situation.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE;   COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN;  AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!!    THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.
