Water and not drinking with eating
Wendy,
They were talking about that at the RYD conference, the reason is that the water tends to flush the food out, and you become more hunger sooner, as far as the importance of water, your body needs to stay hydrated and everyone not just weight loss patients need to drink plenty of water. I will be honest with you and have struggled on drinking water with meals, that ole habit is hard to break.
Hugs, Robin

One of the things that I understand and happens to me when I drink WITH meals is that I tend to eat MORE because it does push the food through your stomach faster and never allows you to feel that fullness in time before we are miserable.
As for NOT drinking enough. I found that I become really dehydrated quickly since WLS. I never was a dehydration patient in the ER so to speak prior to surgery probably because I always was able to eat and drink alot more prior to WLS...so that was never an issue.
Good Luck.
PS - something that my cousin introduced me too...........since her WLS..............she puts sweet n low in her plain water at the restaurants to help her get just plain water down..................
I do that sometimes too.............even though we are NOT suppose to drink with our meals - I sip small sips just to wet my mouth mainly.....................

- Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose. Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email. I'll answer it as soon as possible.

Hey Wendy. I don't drink much plain water at all. I use Crystal Light. I have found that I can drink much more by adding that to my water. I probably drink 5-6 bottles of water a day that way. There are so many flavors I know you can find one that you like. I prefer the strawberry. Plus I wil drink a glass or 2 of iced tea a day.
Drinking during meals has become some what of problem for me too. I don't drink alot but I feel like things get stuck but what I am learning is if I stop when I feel that stuck feeling that I don't eat near as much. Also for me drinking between meals keeps me from getting hungry.

Why not drink with meals? Because the liquid pushes the food through your stoma which allows you to eat more and not feel the satisfaction of fullness as quickly, hence we can eat more at one time, more calories harder to lose weight.
Water is important because of dehydration. Think of your new pouch and stoma, the way your stomach is now the water will literally run straight through and you aren't staying fluid filled as much.
Also the water flushes out toxins, think of the toxins in the fat we all have/had stored in our bodies.
