Questions about revisions

Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I have been here but I wanted to come back and ask some questions. This was always a great source for information and support in the past.

I had bypass surgery in November of 2004. I lost 116 pounds in the first year and a half. I have since gained back 55 pounds. I am scared that I will gain it all back. I still cannot eat like I used to eat before the surgery but I do eat things that I know I shouldn't. I have made some mistakes but I want to try and get back on the path.

I want to try and get back on track without having to have a revision but it has been on my mind. I wonder if I have the revision, will I loose more and then be right back where I am in 4 1/2 years, gaining?  I would like to hear from people that have had a revision. Did you have the same fear? How did you get past it? Did you try to get back on track before you attempted the revision?

Thanks to anyone that reads or response,
Shawna

Shawna I am so glad you came back here to get help.  I know there are others here that gained and now have lost it back without having revision.  I hope they see your post and will tell you what they did.  I am nearly 2 years out and I stress when I gain anything.  I am so afraid of failing at this.  I am no expert because I know I don't do things right but my first suggestion would be to get back to the basics.  Push the proteins first.  Many people on here do the 5 day pouch test to help them get started.  Then the one thing I am working on is exercising.  I HATE to exercise but I am trying to find something I enjoy and will  motivate me because I know now that I can eat more I need the exercise to balance that out.

There is a motivation post here everyday.  A place where you can go and post how your day went and it will help keep you accountable.  That might help to.

Lastly try and find a support group to get into.  I go to one in Terrell and one at Doctor's Hospital.  the one in Terrell is more social and the one at the hospital is more structured.  So I am getting the best of both worlds.

Hi Shawna, it's been a long time lady.  I'm struggling with a small regain right now and have started the 5 day pouch test that Teena mentioned.  I've used it before with luck getting back on track and realizing what my pouch is telling me; satisifed doesn't have to mean full.  Here is the website that gives the details if you are interested:  www.5daypouchtest.com.  Kaye Bailey designed this test to help her reign in the food issues she was dealing with and to remind her of the commitment we made to do certain things when we had WLS.

I don't think Gina will mind me telling you that this test is what got her back on track and losing not only the 40 +/- lbs she regained but helped her to lose more and get to Onderland.

My suggestion is to try getting back on track and if you are still struggling then meet with a surgeon and have your pouch checked out to make sure it isn't stretched nor your stoma blown out.

Good Luck, stay around support is key to success!

Hi Shawna good to see you posting.  This is the right place to come for support and guideance.  I had a revision but mine was from a non-functional lapband (never lost a pound) to the RNY.  I have reached goal and I'm maintaining.  So it sounds like our 2 situations are completely different.

My first suggestion would be for you to make an appt with your doctor to check out the "mechanics" of your bypass.  If everything is good, meaning small pouch, etc, then you need to work on getting back to basics.  We all know how easy it is to let carbs back into our lives.  We also know that the basics work: SOLID protein first, no drinking with meals, 64 oz of water a day minimum and move your body.  Dana's suggestion of the 5day pouch test is a good one.  If you can't bring yourself to attempt the liquids, just clean out the kitchen, and stock up on solid protein.  Also LOG your intake everyday.  It is amazing how that opens your eyes as to what you are ACTUALLY eating rather than what you THINK you're eating.  We have a daily post here called "May motivation" where we post our "plan" for the day and what were are going to meet out goals.  We'd love to have you join us.  Also I live 15 minutes from Mesquite so if you ever want to meet and talk please let me know.  I'd be happy to lend an ear.  Good luck and keep posting.
