Being a Newbie to the Texas Board I want to THANK EVERYONE I met this weekend at the RYD Confernce in Galveston. For those who could not attend you missed the best weekend with warm ,genuine people I now consider good supportive friends. Everyone was there for the same purpose to get educated and be supportive and get support. I learned SO MUCH! Thank You to Yvonne,, Ramon Debra, Sean,  Monica  and Dr. Lamonaco and everyone who gave a welcome ,supportive comment or smile and "I'll see you again soon". This is what all of us need is someone who has been there who can show us the way or help us learn from their stumbles and redirection. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon and chatting when I can. I had tears in my eyes all the way home I didn't want the weekend to end. I can't wait to share with other friends all I have learned from all of you. Love  to everyone. Miss Jean

I don't remember if I got a chance to meet you at the RYD or not, but I wanted to welcome you, neighbor!  I live in Friendswood also (older part north of the Quaker church) and I go to the Pasadena Support Group.  We just had our meeting for May so I hope you can join us in June!

p.s.  I was the short woman in the turquoise shorts and tank top - the only post-op in the room that wasn't cold LOL.

Not sure what you mean about programmed.......

The town was founded in 1895 by a Quaker named Frank Brown from land negotiated from J.C League (League City).  After the 1900 Galveston storm, the Quakers used their sawmill to saw all the felled trees to build their first building called The Academy which was their church, school and meeting place.  In 1928 they had one of the few high schools in the area and kids came from all over to attend.

As for active - yes, very active.  I have not been to services there, but have been there for a Christmas Choral performance by their members and also for a couple of my son's school choir performances.

Wow, very interesting ..   Thriving Friends churches are very rare these days, except up in the NE area ..   Most Friends services of today consist of small meetings of members held in their homes or in a very small building, with everyone basically sitting around a table talking about whatever they feel led to, in the style of founder George Fox.  These are called "unprogrammed" meetings, b/c they are more like a Bible study (for want of a better analogy) than an actual, planned service with a pastor leading things.   "Programmed" meetings are planned worship services attended by a greater number of members, like a traditional church, with the services being led by a clergyperson.   The church in Friendswood is the latter type.

Thanks for the info about Friendswood.

Gina, I know what you mean ,there are so many great people you want to share with everyone you can. I'm a nurse too. I'm a pediatric Float nurse at Texas Childrens in Houston. Maybe you can give me some tips on how to get enough in during  12hr. shifts. I always make sure I get breakfast but never know when I can eat lunch and by 8:30pm Im tired and hungry. I mostly have to drink protein shakes if I don't get to eat but still doesn't seem to be enough. I heard there may be another event in the Woodlands north of Houston  this Fall I so hope they do. Thanks for the warm welcome, Miss Jean
