Please send up good vibes and prayers for my 8th grade DD...she has to retake her math taks today due to failing it by one question a several weeks ago. The good thing is that she has been in a math class with just 5 other kids since the last test so she has gotten some pretty intense help. But sometimes with test anxiety it doesn't matter how well you know the information.....thanks everyone.....this is an important test  for moving on to high school...(at least in the minds of the state)....

July,

I know exactly how you are feeling.  My son (you met him Saturday night) failed the Taks test the first time last year (8th grade).  He passed it the second time with no problems.  Come heck or high water, he was not failing the 8th grade because of the Taks.  I already had talked to his principal about it and he was not going to fail him.  Jonathon took 2 algebra classes this year, Algebra and Algebra lab to make sure he was caught up on his skills and he passed the 9th grade Taks the first time (we found out yesterday!)  Don't let the state tell you what is best for your child.  I was determined to go all the way to Rick Perry if I had to!

Good luck to your daughter and it was great to meet you last weekend.

yes..I already told her do not worry...you WILL go to 9th grade...unfortunately they have to try it 3 times before being able to fight anything...this is her second try...she also failed it in 7th grade (again by 1-2 questions...so she has been in math block as well...two class periods...and now with the individual attention...her teacher just replied to an email and said he felt good about it....thanks and good to meet you as well.....

July,

My daughter failed most of math TAKS all her years in school.  In 3rd grade, I pushed and forced the issue for special testing. She was diagnosed with dyscalcula (sp??) which is a math learning disability.  Through special help (which the school pays for), she was able to overcome the disability and can work through math fine today (her senior HS year).  However, if your daughter has not been tested and struggles to pass math, you may need to ask them to perform an IQ test which can determine if something additional is going on.

In all the years for HS, my daughter only passed one of the math portion state exams.  She's going to graduate and we're preparing for math in college, but she'll get through it.  Just insist on special testing if this continues.

She actually was tested for that in 5th grade...(or maybe 4th) ...I hated to admit that I HOPED that was it...but the tests showed no disability... but I really doubt the test results...so depending on the results here I may psh to have her retested.....thanks for your input,......

Prayers being said!!  Jeff had to take his Math Taks just a couple days from being home from surgery (he is in 8th too ~ he was being homeschooled by the district)  I told him to do his best but I just knew he was going to fail it because he was so sore and didnt feel good at all.  To my surprise he passed, I almost fell over when the teacher told me.  I HATE these stupid test, there are kids and adults that just arent good test takers but smart as a whip.....................

Good luck to her!!!
