Hey everyone!
I just ran across this forum while having sleeping issues. I had my RNY Monday and am going through all the emotions expected. I think it's mainly because I can't sleep but maybe 2 hours at a time and that is even with pain medicine. I'm really sore and I know before I know it it will be gone. I'm unable to sleep in our bed because it's too uncomfortable getting up even with pillows and everything they suggest. We don't own a recliner and can't afford to go out and buy one right at this moment.. So I have been sleeping in my living room chair which is ok if I'm dead tired but otherwise it's been sucking.
Ok sorry I had to vent that because unfortunally my husband just doesn't understand how bad I'm feeling right now no matter how much he tries to understand.
I'm Tomasita but everyone calls me Tommie, I'm 31 and a SAHM to 6 kids, 18, 16, 15, 12, 12, & 3. Three of them are mine by birth and the other three became mine after m y sister passed away 8 1/2 years ago. So needless to say there is never a quiet moment in my house....
I had staples removed today and instructed to sip sip sip and walk walk walk. Which I'm doing my damnest on but it just seems to come up short at the end of the night. I can't wait to get to know you all better =)

Good morning Tommie! And welcome to the TX Board here at OH.
I'm sorry you're hurting. Absolutely it gets better! You just hang in there. Take your pain meds and stay ahead of it. Sipin and walking is your only job right now. Let some of those kids help to take care of you for a change.
Can you rent a recliner from a rent a center place? just a thought. I know finances are tight for all of us, but if we're talking about your health...maybe a rental would work.
Keep posting. We'd love to get to know you better.

Good Morning Tommie and welcome to the TMB! You;ll find many of us here have sleep issues! Congrats on your surgery and welcome to0 the losers bench! Walking and sipping REALLY do help with the pain, so do all you can! Do you have something you can use as a footstool with your chair? That might help yo get more comfortable! (By the way you will find I am a terrible typist along the way--lol)

My eyes kinda crossed after you said you have six kids so I'm not sure what you said after that......my kids have given me many new gray hairs this week.....lol
I just wanted to give you lots of hugs cuz I know if I were you that's what I would want. Hang in there. You're going to have a few bad days here and there but it will get better each day.
If the older kids & you're husband offer to help, let them.
You need to focus on you as much as you can right now.
Take care and reach out to others who have been through this as much as you can.

Morning Tommie and Welcome to the TMB. Like everyone said already...it will get better every day. I know when I was newly post op and couldn't sleep in my bed.....I would lay across my couch with pilows around me sitting up and sleep that way. I imagine that would be more comfortable than a chair. As far as the walking goes.....I think most surgeon's tell you to do 30 minutes a day. Break it down to 5 or 10 minutes at a time....that will really help you to reach that goal. Trust me...everyday you will get better and stronger. I agree with everyone else.....with 6 kids let them pamper you....you deserve it. Look forward to getting to know you better. It is pretty dead on here on the weekends so bare with us !!! Have a great day and sleep when you get a chance !!!

Tommie,
Welcome!! Be careful on this message board...it can be addicting. The people here are great. I haven't had surgery yet, so I can't offer any advice. I just wanted to say welcome, jump in with both feet, and have fun. It may be kinda quiet on here this weekend as there is a big convention going on in Galveston, bu****ch out come Monday. Everybody will be back in full force. What part of Texas are you from? Looking forward to getting to know you!

WELCOME TOMMIE!!!!
Sorry your feeling so bad...honestly it does get better!! I slept on my couch the first 2 weeks after my surgery, pillows all around me, but really not any good sleep! Once you can get comfortable and get into your bed you will feel much better.
I know I used the heating pad those first couple of weeks, in areas that were getting sore, that seemed to really help.
Enjoy your day, and sip, sip, walk, walk.....LOL

Hi Tommie, welcome to the Texas Message Board (TMB) our little part of OH. I agree with the others, walking and sipping are the two most important things you can do right now then rest as you need to. Each day gets better with the pain. You may experience some frustrations early out but they are only temporary. The weight will be melting away and you'll be so excited.
Stay on top of the pain as much as possible with your pain meds, each day it should get better and better. Again Welcome, and as the others said allot of our TMB family is in Galveston this weekend at a convention but come Monday the board will be hopping and we'll get to share in their fun with lots of pictures.
