I have a good friend who is a nirse who is going to have LAP-band with Dr. C. in a couple of weeks (wow - he gets them scheduled fast!   )  ..   I guess I'm gong to be her , as she doesn't have any family in Texas and is a little scared of the surgery ..

I had hoped she would get Dr. Barker as my first choice for her, but he has a very long waiting list, apparently ..

I don't know anything about Dr. C.     Does he have a pretty good rep.?

I don't think Dr. Barker does many lap bands anymore.  He is going more towards doing the sleeve for those that don't want RNY I think.

VSG on 09/02/08 with

I had my VSG in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last September.  I needed my stitches removed.  My internist is very conservative and I knew that he would wig out.  I spoke with Dr. Joya's assistant, Gerald, about this.  Get this.  Gerald lives in Mansfield and commutes.  What a commute!!!!  I live in Arlington.  Gerald referred me to his doctor.  He took my stitches out.  Dr. Castro shares and office with him one or two days a week.  He operates at Methodist Mansfield.  His main office is in Dallas.  I called Dr. Castro for an appointment for aftercare.
He was very gracious and didn't bash me for going to Mexico.  Afterall, he's hispanic!  I have had several followup appointments.  His nurses are the best!  So he wasn't my surgeon but my experience has been very good.  I wish your friend the best!

 Thanks, guys.

I was looking over Dr. C.'s profile on OH later on, and it looks like he has done over 1,500 WLSes to date, is board-certified and even a F.A.C.S.   So, it sounds like from everything she should be in good hands.

(btw, I noticed too that Dr. C. is actually a grad of a med school in Mexico - so no wonder he has confidence in Mexican surgeons!     )

I'm not sure if it is appropriate for me to ask this but I am in the process of trying to make a decision about where to get LB self-pay and am considering Mexico.  I also live in Arlington and am happy to hear there's someone nearby to follow-up with but I need to figure out a general idea of costs.  How much does it cost for your fills?  I need to include anticipated fill costs with Mexico surgery costs to compare it to local surgeons who offer first year "free" fills.  Thanks so much if you can help me out with this.
