KAREN-my usual "advice" to people is not to "TEST THE WATERS"..but you are an adult, in charge of your own body, and your own choices. A Diet Dr Pepper would not be the death of ME, but it was never MY addiction--I can take it or leave it-not everyone can--why open a can of worms, whoop azz, whatever you want to call it that you may not can "call back"?? Be strong, my sister!!!

JUST A WARNING!!

I have not had a soda in 3yrs and I am 2 yrs out from surgery. Last week I had a small bowl study done and had to drink 2 or 3 ounces of bicarbonate of soda. (Like drinkin a carbonated drink!)

OMG---I thought I was going to die! tears were rolling down my face and they kept telling me not to burp! Like I could controlit. The pain was excrutiating on my pouch!! I never want to get near a soda ever!!

Do remember everyone and evry experience is different and I am sensitive! This is just what happened to me!!

I always drank diet sodas - even before surgery. I now drink maybe one a week and it takes me pretty much all day to drink it. I also buy the smaller cans as I found that the large cans - I would end up tossing most of it out.

I tried a diet root beer and it gave me the worst pain in my chest.  I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. I was in the grocery store when it hit.  I had to go to my car and take some gas X and it finally worked and once I was able to burp the pain stopped.  I had tried drinks before and a drink didn't bother me but I had 1/2 a can of diet rootbeer and I dont' know if I will ever try it again.

I'm one of those horrible people that's starting drinking Diet Coke again.  I can drink it all day long with no PHYSICAL problems BUT it definately makes me crave more carbs.  So resist if you can, it's not worth it.  I wish I had never restarted.  For me, quitting smoking was easier than quitting Diet Coke.

Misty,

When I weighed 251lbs I drank 6-8 diet cokes a day. (not a coinsendence that you see skinny people drinking water and obese people drinking diet coke) They have found that sodas do make you crave more carbs. I have tried to drink diet cokes since surgery and it makes my stomach hurt really bad. Like people said ask your Dr. but if you can resist I would. Occasionally I'll take a sip of my daughter's coke when we are out to dinner and I'm satisfied

Your loved!

Lynnette
