Ok I have not had a diet dr pepper since Aug 1, 2008.  Today for some reason I am having a craving for one.  Do you think it would be ok to try one.  Will it hurt me?  Please I am about to fall of the diet dr pepper wagon!!!!!

It won't taste the same...after a long time away they never do...and will it be worth it?  For us bandsters carbonation is a no no...think it's the same for you isn't it?  My doc said no anyway.  I still have a sip off my kids when they get them once in a great while just cuz.

I can't really give you advice, but I can tell you that all Dr.'s and opinions about this topic will vary from what I have read on the boards!!

I think Dr. B allows diet sodas with our diet, but personally I don't like the diet stuff, so I just quit drinking soda all together. Granted I didn't do it until Sunday when I started my liquid diet, but I know how bad the cravings are. Today I'm doing better with it, and just think about how m surgery is monday and I really want to be over the caffiene withdrawls when monday rolls around!!!

So, I BET you will get tons of different responses. I can tell you, that once you have 1, you are going to want to keep drinking them... or at least this is what happens to me. I can not moderate drinking sodas at all... so I just don't have them!!

I think you should do whatever you feel is right. I think the biggest concern I can think of is the gas in the soda upsetting you... maybe try it flat, which is something I hear some people do... Thats the only thing I got for ya!! Hoepfully others will post!!!

I was Dr. Pepper JUNKIE.......I didnt want diet..I wanted the good stuff.  Actually, I LIVED at Sonic for Vanilla Dr. Pepper!!!  I havent had one since March '08.  It just kills me some days.....STILL but I fight that urge!  I dont want to start that monkey on my back again.  My feeling is I have worked SO hard to get where I am and if I start something I will just start my "bad habits" again.  Now that is me but I am one of those that I just think "one more or one wont hurt"........so I dont start......lol!!!

Hugs to you!!

I see nothing wrong with them if your doc is ok with you drink it and it isn't a very day, all day type of thing.  You may very well experience some discomfort though, I can drink a little diet coke but very little.

Ms Misty,
My Dr said to stick to the diet stuff.  Unfortunately the carbonation kicks my bands butt so I have to let it sit there for a while.

If ur Dr says its ok, why don't u try one of them mini little cans?  Maybe that will satisfy ur craving.

But not sure how "strong" u are on ur temptations.  U know, once a food addict ALWAYS a food addict...

Hugs,
Monica

U tell me that I sin,
U say Im bound for hell,
So once ur judgment condemns U,
I SHALL SEE U THERE.

I drank diet pepsi when pg with Rach - used to live on diet dp - now the carbonation hurts my tummy - just feels yuck going down  - but I do know VERY sucsessful RNY folks who drink diet coke on a reg basis - try it and see - you may not like the taste -you may and if you do try to make it a "treat" like a glass of wine or other drink - something to have once in a while and savor
my best thought

Just be careful...once I started back on diet coke I never stopped. And I believe now it is affecting me trying to lose the rest of my weight. (you know if I am drinking a coke I am not drinking water.) I guess I got the caffeine addiction going again. But if you feel like you can keep from drinking them too regularly then you could try to let it sit for a bit to let the bubbles settle...I do not have any trouble with the bubbles...I wish I did...would be easier to cut back....I have cut back on soda this week and upped my water again though...one step at a time

Thanks everybody for the good advice.  I think I will just finish my ice tea.  I hate pain.  LOL I just grabed blackberries instead.  I knew you people would be there for me and get me through this addiction thing.  Hasn't bothered me until today.  Go Figure.

I'm so proud of you for resisting the urge.  It probably wouldn't have hurt you too much physically, but doesn't it feel SO much better knowing that your beating the monster mentally??  You've resisted this long, I'm glad you didn't choose to give in today.  BE PROUD!!!
