Sean you are right it may take 3-4 months and for some it's not til 2-3-4 years before the lack of proper supplementation hits.  Those that have shared their stories will tell you and beg you to follow the plans.

Two things:

Almost ALL surgery types MUST take supplements.  If you don't, by the time you DO feel different one way or another...you could be seriously ill with irreversible effects.  Ask Debra.  Her last trip to the ER had the medical staff thinking she had had a stroke.  She's getting iron infusions currently which is NO PICNIC...it's an all day ordeal.

You DO NOT want to "feel like you need them".  That is when it's too late.  Take the dang things.  Taking them won't kill you...NOT taking them sure as heck can kill you.

Secondly, to get your ticker to show up you must copy THE ACTUAL PICTURE OF THE TICKER and paste it in the signature box under profile settings.  If you are using tickerfactory, it will automatically update your ticker in your signature line when you update it on the tickerfactory site.

Hope this helps.

TAKE YOUR VITS!  You need them...especially when you feel like you don't.

Kris M.   Ignorance is bliss...but not when you're aware of it!!

there are all kinds of things  - but I can tell you from experance KEEPING those levels up is a whole whole lot easyer than getting them back up

and honestly at 3 months they probably won't show anything in your labs - at 3 yrs you may be walking like an old man with broken bones, brain fry from lack of critical Bs

it is not that hard - it is part of the surgery -  you go to wally world or walgreens type place buy a little old lady pill box - pick one day a week to fill it - fill it with vits and meds - set the timer on your cell phone or outlook etc and TAKE YOUR VITS every single day!!!

I don't know about you but I had this surgery to be HEALTHY!!!  yeah 50K worth of plasics MIGHT make me look like a barbie doll (with ugly scars LOL) but only I can make me healthy and that means the gym, my vits, water and lots of protien

just a quick question when you say milk shake what are you talking about here?

When my son was having his head stitched up in the emergency room, he sat next to a young woman who had lost most of her teeth because she had RNY and didn't take her calcium.  Your body will rob the calcium out of your bones and teeth to keep the vital organs functioning and YOU CANNOT FEEL IT.  By the time you do, it is too late.

Vitamin B deficiencies can cause PERMANENT NERVE DAMAGE and by the time you have symptoms IT IS TOO LATE.  Some of the damage is NOT reversible!

Please take your vitamins every day!  Even when we start to look "normal" on the outside, we are NOT normal on the inside and we will never be able to absorb everything we need from food.

WHAT?!?!  You don't want to get scolded by your doc?  Ok, well, sorry, instead of your doc, you are gonna hear it from some of us "vets".  This "vet" of nearly five YEARS post op is going to be one of them....Dude, TAKE THE STINKIN' VITAMINS!!!!  You may not FEEL a difference, but there IS a difference.  It's kind of like a car.  You may not FEEL when your car is low on oil or other essential fluids, but it starts to corrode away the engine, slowly at first, then by the time your "CHECK ENGINE OIL" light comes on, the damage is probably already done.  There will be damage for sure if you completely ignore the warning light, too.  Oh, sure, you might be able to bandaid fix it but there WILL be some permanent damage.  Not to mention the "domino" effect...once one thing breaks down, something else then doesn't work right, then something else, etc.  When we all initially wanted surgery and our docs told us, "I'll do this surgery as long as you take your daily vitamins and here's why it is important....", we would have given our right arm for the surgery, agreeing to do WHATEVER we were told to do.  Well, taking vitamins EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of your life is a must.  PERIOD.  I have mine out on the counter and take them FIRST THING every single morning.  I am an EXTREMELY busy mom of three kids and one "big" kid (husband) but I do not neglect them.  I have extras even in my purse in case I'm in a hurry and am racing out the door to get someone to someplace.  Water/tea is ALWAYS with me, just ask my buddies at the Katy Krew, they will all tell you I NEVER show up empty handed and never walk away from there empty handed either.  You are waaaaay too early out to start breaking rules so get back on track and take those little suckers no matter what!  We all want you to be successful which is why we're all yappin' at you about this!
Ok....off my soap box now...

Harsh comments?  Don't think so.  Honest comments is more like it.  Life is not always sugar-coated.  Sometimes we need a kick in the pants.

I know most people do not always listen and follow the rules.  But not following one here and one there is a lot different than ignoring the biggest rule of all for RNY patients.  Vitamins and supplements.  MUST.  MUST.  MUST.

I honestly hope notoriously reads this entire thread and learns.  Then goes to his doctor and tells him exactly what he has done.  The doctor needs to know, so when notoriously starts following the regimen he can see the improvement in the numbers in his blood work.
